Yes, it's best to strengthen one's own faith
YOURSAY ‘The Allah row is not a religious issue. It’s an Umno agenda.’
Strengthen own faith, not bar others, says PAS
Onyourtoes:
Is the issue over the use of the word ‘Allah’, and also other words, strictly a religious/theological dispute? If Muslims have allowed the use of ‘Allah’, would it seriously jeopardise their faith?
If Christians are denied the use of that word, would it seriously affect their faith in Jesus Christ? To me, it will not (although I am not sure how learned theologians would say about this).
Why then are the Christians so tenaciously fighting for it? This is where it has become dicey and difficult. To me, it is not just about ‘Allah’ per se.
To me, it is our right to freedom of religion, our right to practise our faith free from interference and our right to govern and administer our own religious affairs. If we concede ‘Allah’, where will it end? Tomorrow, there will be another issue cropping up I am sure.
This is about big brother-small brother relationship; about dominance and subservience relationship and about the need to watch out for appeasement which will eventually lead to more erosion of basic rights that our founding fathers have so painfully sought to protect.
Toonarmy: This is not a religious issue. This is simply an evil political agenda by Umno.
YF: While the whole Muslim world talks fairness like PAS, only Umno talks like the Taliban extremists who have caused so many Muslim countries to become failed states.
Thank goodness there are still real Muslims in this country. The rest are just munafiks and murtads who abuse Islam for their own political and racist gain.
Whatif: I hope PAS could remain steadfast in their current views and distance themselves from the narrow-mindedness of the BN government.
And as PAS has much influence over the rural populace, they should convey to the kampung folks the real facts of the Allah issue with supporting historical facts about the usage of the word by only Malay-speaking Christians from centuries ago.
This should negate what the MSM (mainstream media) has been wrongly feeding the rural folks who should wise up to the dirty politics of BN.
Omega: Thank you, PAS vice-president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man for sharing your positive thoughts with all of us.
Anonymous #37634848: The Allah issue is not about freedom of religion for Christians. The aggressiveness and tenacity of the Christian groups to use the word ‘Allah’ in their sermons and Bible is the contentious issue.
All the bibles, including the King James version which is the source of the Malay Bible, do not have the word ‘Allah’ in them. ‘Jesus Christ’ has been used in everyday life, in sermons and in the bibles. Why then this craving to use the Allah word?
Allah is the name God as revealed in the Quran. He is one and only. He is absolute and eternal. He is not begotten nor begetteth. There is none like unto Him.
Whereas Christians offend Muslim sensitivity by associating other partners to Him, for example Jesus, the Son of God. Why can't Christians just use Jesus Christ for God?
Not Convinced: Anonymous #37634848, go tell that to the Christian Sabahans and Sarawakians who have called God as ‘Allah’ in Bahasa Malaysia for centuries.
Myop101: Anonymous #37634848, if you don't know why we can't just use one word, that means you don't understand Christianity. If you don't understand, are you willing to listen and find out why or will you just keep ranting about how it offends Muslim sensitivities?
Also, Christianity came before Islam. Shouldn't you stop using anything in association with Christianity which include all the stories and prophets found in the Bible because the same logic applied would mean Islam is distorting it?
Unless you learn to live and let live, you will realise that the same double standards you apply as a majority will work against you as a minority in other countries.
You may cry about persecution in those countries but who will care when you choose to do the same to minorities here?
Khris: Now this is what wisdom is about - strengthen one’s own faith.
Injured cop claims 'unruly' protesters threw spray tin
Monkey Wrench: I have a difficulty believing the police officer's story. The crowd at the Dec 31 rally was warm and friendly, and for the best part orderly. I hope this man was not injured too badly and will recover soon.
Gggg: Since this case is under investigation, how come a small corporal like Faizul Ali can talk like a top police officer?
Most junior police officer need to get their boss' approval before talking to the press. It looks like this man can even positively identify that it was a student who threw the can.
Well Thats Fantastic : Someone threw a can and it happened to hit a cop. The government has done so much to anger so many that an accidental collision between a discarded can and a cop is seen as malicious intent.
I think the people involved in the rally were exceptionally well-behaved considering that these are people angry with the government.
Why the police are supporting BN's inflation drive, I don't understand. Are they kept so poor - we know they are - and needy for their job that they dare not side with the rakyat?
Truth1: Soon they'll come up with a list of poor coppers who, among other things, were injured because they tripped over their shoelaces, walked into a manhole while walking in the dark, sprained their ankle because their boot heel came off, and had a bad tummy ache (and, heavens, vomited) because they ate a pizza slice offered by one of the anti-price protesters.
Anonymous #03815719: Singer Najwa Latif confirmed the atmosphere of the rally was peaceful, and nothing happened when she left the concert at 11.40pm. So what was the necessity to switch off the lights at 11.30pm, Datuk Bandar?
Nah! Nah! Nah! : This attack on the police is the best script of the year for 2014, so far.
