PM must take lead in assets declaration

Ambiga dares PM to declare his assets

Pemerhati: Former Bersih 2.0 co-chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan is spot on unlike Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Operation Evaluation Panel head Hadenan Abdul Jalil .

Until and unless MACC investigates people like Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Najib Razak and Abdul Taib Mahmud of Sarawak and their families, and explains how they all managed to accumulate billions in assets, it will be rightly viewed as an Umno lackey organisation whose primary aim is to protect Umno so that it can continue stealing billions of the people’s money.

The other despicable activity of MACC is to harass the opposition and even commit alleged murder as happened in the Teoh Beng Hock case.

Sali Tambap: Corruption is the biggest scourge to the well-being of this nation. We cannot move on, we cannot even catch up with our neighbours, and lag behind because of the corruption and the wastage that arises from it, especially in government spending.

It would be merely lip service for Najib to call for a clean government unless he takes the bull by the horn. He, being the head, should offer himself to be transparent to be an icon of a corrupt-free figure in this corruption-riddled establishment.

Ambiga, perhaps, is among the few who are still sane and courageous enough in this country and she is right - it has to start with the prime minister.

Allow himself to be investigated and to declare his assets to clear himself from the suspicion that are directed against him by the Malaysian public.

Onyourtoes: This is the next big thing after Bersih. Please don't joke about it anymore. We must pursue this with resolute resolve before this country unequivocally becomes Zimbabwe.

Look, it is our little good life that needs protection now. Ambiga is not doing this for fun. This country has become blatantly corrupt - those who are corrupt can thumb their nose around with no shame but full of arrogance just like asking us right on our face: what can you do about it?

So it is time for us to show them what we can do.

Headhunter: Forget MACC. It's like a well-fed dog who wouldn't dare bite its master. Nothing will change until all the senior officers are replaced with men and women with integrity and the organisation reports directly to the cabinet instead of to the PM.

As long as the BN remain the government, MACC will remain subservient and as useless as a piece of rotten wood.

Malaysia Truly Asia: Ambiga, let’s get that C4 (Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism) and zero tolerance off the ground, shall we?

Now if you are non-partisan, and everyone knows you are not, then ask Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim to declare his assets, his wife's and his family too.

That is what we call showing the way. Oh yes, and don't forget Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim, PKR deputy president Azmin Ali and a few more.

Wira: I hope Malaysians can see the wisdom of having a two-party system to run this country. It is important that the incumbents do not corrupt the system to a point that they themselves are immune to prosecution for the crimes they commit.

The Taiwanese are smart. They took out the Koumintang and gave the Democratic Progressive Party eight years to reform the country. Then they brought back the Koumintang who promptly charged the ex-president in a open court and an honest judge sent him to prison.

If the present president is corrupt, then the next administration, if from the opposition, will definitely charge him.

If we want to see corrupt ministers and their children send to prison and getting them to cough back the money they stole, a peaceful change of government in Putrajaya through the ballot is necessary.

Nothing short of a public declaration of assets which are independently audited by a world renown auditing company like what CM Lim Guan Eng did in Penang will be sufficient to convince the public.

We must leave MACC out of the picture. They have yet to earn our respect.

Sa Tombs: By the way, there is an ancient Malayalee saying: "A fish always rots from the head downwards.” Guess who is the head in Umno?

Anonymous_4056: In Bolehland, the PM is more powerful than the king and all the

sultans combined. The only way is for people's power to get rid of him through the ballot box.

Fair Play: Dear Ambiga, don't be naive asking the PM to declare his assets publicly. But it is a good tactic to make a public statement for the rakyat benefit by challenging him.

Although the Index of Economic Freedom 2014 showed vast improvment, freedom from corruption dropped by 25 points, a major concern that undermined the rule of law.

Jstom: What if MACC says PM has already declared his assets to them (after a teh tarik session) and it is above board? Land of endless possibilities, right?

Kamaapo: To make the fight against corruption more potent, it's vital for the Muslim NGOs to earnestly take leading roles.

The spirit of nationalism is so glaringly lacking in this context. Millions in many resources-rich countries like ours wallow in abject poverty due to corruption of their national leaders. We have lost billions of ringgit.

Is corruption halal ? If it’s haram , why not oppose vehemently? Please.
