YOURSAY ‘And will he dare to go there with the cross in the background?’
Zul raps 'insolent' Anwar and church
ThisLandIsMine:
It's good for churches to be partisan. We now know their stand. Impartiality is not a practise and patience is rhetoric.
Jiminy Qrikert: ThisLandIsMine, it's good that Umno Malays now know the stand of Christians. That's a good 9% of voters who will vote Pakatan Rakyat in response to Umno's relentless persecution of Christians.
But you forget to also mention that a good number of Malays can see the twisted logic of Umno's Muslim supremacists like Perkasa vice-president Zulkifli Noordin who persecute Christians in their Friday sermons at the mosques while denying the churches the right to host a talk on the issue.
You fail to accept that the average Malay is totally disgusted with the evil spewed by Umno Muslims against Christians. So, the 53% of rakyat in favour of Pakatan is fast rising.
The Kajang by-election is now increasingly seen as a referendum on Umno-BN government. You think the 53% can become 65%? This land is no longer yours. It's for all Malaysians.
Anonymous #58458950: The church is apolitical, meaning it does not take part in politics but is obliged to educate its parishioners on politics so that the right decisions can be made.
Given this, political parties are invited for forums or talks to state their views and stands before elections. Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim asked and was given the space. Have others done the same?
Onyourtoes: This is the golden opportunity for Holy Family Church (HFC). Please go ahead, invite any one of them or all of them - Umno, Perkasa, Isma, PPIM (Persatuan Pengguna Islam Malaysia) and whatever.
This is the once in the lifetime opportunity because others can have it once a week.
JMC: I am sure Umno will be welcome to speak at the church premises but will its leaders dare to go there with the cross and other Christian images in the background? Will they put a precondition that all such items be removed?
Umno has free access to the mainstream media but does Anwar have a chance to speak over RTM and TV3 even a few minutes a day?
Quigonbond: Umno and Perkasa have made it "their" political issue. Muslim Malaysians/Islam under siege is false assumption, a lie.
Churches are places of congregation and a perfect forum to exchange views and for victims of political oppression to commiserate in one another.
Muslims under Umno can talk politics too at suraus, etc, if the ulamas allow. Just because they disallow it because it poses a political disadvantage to them does not mean other people can't do it.
Umno is not representative of all things Muslim and Malay, and certainly not representative of Malaysia.
And they and their spin-offs such as Perkasa are certainly no guardian of the Malaysian constitution that permits freedom of association and assembly and expression.
Zulkifli is a has-been post-GE13. Malaysiakini is carrying this just to let the public whack him.
Armchair Newspaper: As a lackey and to stay in the media limelight and to receive his emoluments and entitlements, he must make some hateful, irrational, inflammatory and silly speeches, from time to time.
That's how characters like Zulkifli ply their trade and earn their living. So let's stave him of attention, as even in the Umno-controlled media, his power to shock and awe are diminishing.
Malaysiakini readers are best to ignore posting comments about him, I believe he is incentivised if he is able to draw negative comments from Malaysiakini readers
Apa Ini?: There is no need for politicians to hold talks in mosques. It's happening all the time - Jakim and other Umno sources already dictating Friday sermons. Good Muslims already trying very hard to find mosques and muftis trying to pitch Umno-free sermons.
CiViC: Zulkifli Noordin, day in day out you cry foul whenever non-Muslim talks about Islamic issues, but here you are claiming rights to talk about church activities?
By your rational, you must be involved in the conspiracy to turn Malaysia into a Christian state. And please don't take Malaysians and Muslims for fools, Friday sermons throughout Malaysia is already filled with political talks for Umno.
Sali Tambap: I am sure if Umno want to speak in the church, they would be welcome. But would they do it? Would they do an Anwar?
Would they allow their candidate to speak under the crucifix? But even if they do, would there be people wanting to listen? Would they attract the same crowd?
Pahatian: This is Zulkifli's reasoning. Anything about Anwar is bad or wrong. Everything about Christian or the issue of Allah is showing disrespect to the law, Islam and the sultan.
If this numbskull is good and respectful, he would have been voted in by the people. Since he is not, please shut up.
Bert: Every Christian has a responsibility to be aware of the political issues to make a right decision when it comes to voting. It is their right.
It has nothing to do with Christian evangelists turning Malaysia into a Christian state. Anyway it is your "right" to spin stories to suit your masters.
