Persatuan Hindraf Malaysia (PHM) chief P Waythamoorty has no standing to urge MIC to leave BN, or to point fingers at the party, said MIC treasurer-general S Murugesan.

"Waythamoorty is back to the old ways. Before he joined the government, he accused (the government of) all sort of things. (We) extended our hand to work with him and he refused.

"He failed the Indian community and now left the government. Now he has no right or standing to ask us to leave BN or point fingers at us," he told Malaysiakini .

He added that instead of issuing press releases, Waythamoorty should be looking for ways to serve the Indian Malaysian community instead.

Murugesan ( right ) was responding to Waythamoorty's statement yesterday urging MIC to leave BN, arguing that it has become BN's propaganda mouthpiece but does nothing concrete to improve the Indian community's welfare.

By leaving BN, he said, MIC would stop the further deterioration of the condition of the Indian poor, as well as prove its sincerity to the community.

Since resigning as deputy minister and senator on Feb 8, Waythamoorthy had gone on the offensive against BN by accusing it of failing to meet promises made in the Memorandum of Understanding between BN and PHM, which is aimed at pushing socio-economic reforms for the Indian community.

In turn, his former colleagues in the cabinet such as Abdul Rahman Dahlan and Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar had pointed to the government's other efforts to improve the Indian community's welfare, and accused Waythamoorty of being unable to “work with the system” to help Indians.
