Police are investigating PKR vice-president Tian Chua for sedition following a tweet he sent out “promising” that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak will be brought down in five months.

He was today called in to give his statement at the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters, for investigations under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948.

The Batu MP, whose full name is Chua Tian Chang, had sent out the tweet in question on the evening of March 7, following the Court of Appeal’s reversal of Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim’s acquittal for sodomy.

“Najib sentenced Anwar to 5-year imprisonment - the people will bring down Najib in 5 months, that I promise you!!” reads his posting on Twitter .

Tian Chua had also resisted handing over his personal iPad tablet for police perusal and this caused police to detain him for a while, according to his assistant Vinesh Nair.

Vinesh told Malaysiakini that the MP was disturbed  and now plans to also file a police report at Dang Wangi Police HQ.

Tian Chua was questioned by the police for about an hour starting at 10am today.

Tian Chua had allegedly tweeted the angry message after the Court of Appeal sentenced Anwar to five years’ jail for sodomising his aide. The de facto PKR leader was, however, later freed on bail and a stay on his sentence was granted pending an appeal.
