Pakatan: We won't waste investigation team's time

Pakatan Rakyat will rather not waste MH370's investigation team's time for a briefing that would offer no information that’s not already shared openly.

DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang said he was suspicious why BN reps were given a special briefing last night at in expensive hotel from MH370 spokesmen and acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein.

Lim said on principle he would reject Hishammuddin's ( left ) offer to have the same event for Pakatan reps.

"It is irresponsible when time is so crucial. Why force them to attend a dinner where nothing new is said?" Lim told reporters at Parliament lobby.

Instead, Pakatan will propose a parliamentary select committee (PSC) which can be tasked to support and study the investigation after the search and rescue operation for MH370, now in its 12th day, ends.

He pointed out that Department of Civil Aviation, air force chief and MAS CEO were dragged to the two-hour long meeting at a luxurious hotel in Kuala Lumpur last night.

Lim also slammed Hishammuddin, a veteran parliamentarian himself.

"To say that we have not asked for such a briefing is a lame excuse. If discussions on government affairs are not held in Parliament, then where? " he asked.

Bi-partisan PSC

Lim noted that Pakatan's proposal to discuss MH370 in Parliament was shot down last week.

However, taking Hishammuddin's own mantra that MH370 was a national crisis and politicking must be avoided, Pakatan would try once again to ask for a bi-partisan PSC to be formed.

MP for Seremban Anthony Loke ( right ) will propose the PSC tomorrow during his allocated time to debate the Yang DiPertuan Agong's speech. Under Standing Order 26 (1), no notice will be required to raise this amendment, Loke said.

DAP's Lim said he hopes the PSC, also backed by PKR and PAS MPs, will be able to at least draw some lessons from MH370.

"It should stand ready to investigate at the end of search and rescue operations to find answers to all the controversies and rumours," Lim said.

"It will signal to the world at large that on this issue, we stand united, Lim added, citing the Fukushima nuclear plant disaster in Japan as an example where lawmakers from all sides of the political divide, can unite.

Meanwhile, PKR Batu Pahat MP Mohd Idris Jusi told reporters that he hoped to see better leadership through the MH370 crisis.

He criticised Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in avoiding questions from reporters on Saturday as something that could lower the country's image overseas.

Najib had announced the MH370 search was shifting in a completely new direction. It’s now focused on vast areas of land covering 11 countries and deep and remote oceans.
