YOURSAY ‘A classic case of the right hand not knowing the antics of the left hand.’
Deputy minister makes U-turn on 'turn back' claim
Aries46: The retraction of the ‘turn back assumption’ was not the only blunder by Deputy Defence Minister Abdul Rahim Bakri. His earlier ‘assumptions’ that MH370 (which could not be identified) was not intercepted as it was thought to be a friendly flight is an even bigger gaffe than the first one.
And his most recent assumption that conclusive answers will only be available when debris from the plane is found was the one that took the cake. And when his boss Hishammuddin Hussein was asked to comment on his deputy's bungles, he conveniently feigned ignorance of it.
This is a classic case of the right hand not knowing the antics of the left hand, characteristic of the appalling state of affairs down the line as what is evident now among those that man our air defence systems.
Turvy: The U-turn was made right from the start. To say that anyone had the plane in sight over the Straits of Malacca when the plane was missing for at least an hour is a most damnable thing.
If that sighting was a fact, then at least some of the lives could have been saved by continual tracking of aircraft with radar and/or another plane in pursuit. You may not have prevented it diving into the ocean (if that was what happened) but you could at least have pinpointed the precise location where it went down.
What has happened to us? Have we become so stupid as a nation that we dabble with words when the whole world is trying to find answers to the fate of 239 souls.
Gombak: This was the most incredible ‘U-turn’. Now you understand why foreigners do not believe in what we tell them. There are simply too many U-turns, if not twists and turns.
Cry, My Beloved Country: Is this not the perennial problem arising from the mindset of our so-called leaders making apparently authoritative statements or answering parliamentary questions without an iota of evidence to support their assertions, which eventually end up nothing more than assumptions?
Remember the statement about statutory rape and the request to expunge it from the Hansard earlier this week? Mr Prime Minister, what is going on with your cabinet?
Xtcher: Never mind, the deputy minister can request the House speaker to have his statement expunged from the records of the minutes in the Parliament.
After all, a precedent had already been set. Then parliamentary proceedings can carry on and ministers can continue to make irresponsible statements and have them deleted later.
Ex-PJ: These leaders just don't learn. Having made fools of themselves during the early days of MH370 disappearance, giving different versions that were later corrected or retracted, and now Abdul Rahim made the same mistake.
Now you know why Malaysia is heading the wrong way. The incompetency shown here is typical of the way the government is run.
Deputy defence minister, here is something you can answer: Tell us why your radar monitors were asleep and the Air Force did not raise an alarm when an unidentified plane flew across our northern border.
Anonymous_3e86: So now we can ‘assume’ our deputy defence minister is also doing a turn-back?
The fact is our military did not question nor confirm with Subang ATC (air traffic control) over MH370's turn back if they had seen it live on radar. Or did they sleep through the whole episode?
Now this minister is trying to make excuses? Either way, our military did not do their job to ensure the security of the country. And there can be no excuses when it involves the country's security.
Worried Sick: In any other self-respecting country, if there were ministers like these two deputy ministers (Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Abdul Rahim), they would have resigned from the government to protect their government's dignity but not here - this is the land of endless idiots who think of nothing in giving a bad name to our government.
May I suggest that an IQ test be administered to all potential ministers and deputy ministers from now on before they are appointed to their posts? The world is watching us.
Odin: Abdul Rahim, one can suffer fools such as village idiots, but one cannot suffer those, that is, fools, who are supposed to be members of parliament.
Abdul Rahim, your retraction notwithstanding, you have confirmed once again your sheer inability to speak intelligently on the plane debris.
I commented yesterday that should the debris be found and recovered, and an examination reveals that their origin was Boeing 777, it has no bearing whatsoever on the dereliction of the RMAF (Royal Malaysian Air Force).
Abasir: One of Dr Mahathir Mohamad's great contributions to Umno was to put in processes and procedures to ensure that only the dullest gets into the 'kabinet'. It served him well then.
He was never questioned by obedient fools who knew their place in the scheme of things, he was given free rein to do as he wished. That tradition has continued and so we have imbeciles like Abdul Rahim accidentally articulating his 'thoughts'.
Of course, his rise in politics may also be attributed to an electorate which really cares nothing about intelligence so long as the fellow is of the right race. Stupidity in Malaysia, is an endless stream... from which Umno drinks deep and thrives.
Maju: Sorry friends, the deputy minister's turn back was not detected by the RMAF radar, probably it can only be detected by bomohs carrying coconuts and bamboo sticks.
After making the turn back, the deputy minister is still sitting intact in his office. If he had the slightly shame and dignity he should have resigned yesterday. Oh sorry, the word resign is not in BN 's dictionary.
Bury Lynas: Don't you worry, deputy minister. Take your time. Tell us the version which suits you best. We can wait.
Abdul Rahim shoots himself in the foot
