Three top PKR leaders, Saifuddin Nasution, Nurul Izzah Anwar and Rafizi Ramli have formed an alliance ahead of the PKR elections for the central leadership scheduled for May.

The trio announced their alliance, themed "Our Future Together", at a hotel just a stone's throw away from the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya this morning.

Saifuddin, who is the incumbent secretary-general, will be contesting for the position of PKR deputy president, against heavyweights such as incumbent Azmin Ali, Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and incumbent vice-president Tian Chua.

Meanwhile, Nurul will be defending her position as PKR vice-president whereas Rafizi will also seek a seat as a vice-president.

Surprisingly though, Tian Chua, who will go against Saifuddin for deputy president, was present during the announcement of the pact.

Tian Chua ( left ) had filed his nomination to contest both for vice-president and deputy president but is widely speculated to drop out from the race for one of the posts.

"I have not made a final decision but my focus is on the deputy presidency. Even if I do contest for the position, it will not affect my friendship with Saifuddin," Tian Chua said.

Saifuddin said he was hopeful that the election this time would not cause any fracture in the party. "I'm confident I can win," he added.

Also present was PKR Youth chief candidate Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

Rafizi said the pact was to give party voters a choice amid the clash between Khalid and Azmin.

"Of late, it is my opinion that the clash of personalities betwen Khalid Ibrahim and Azmin Ali is not helping the rakyat.

"Even though my decision (to form the pact) goes against popular expectations - I am told my move is political suicide - but we create (this group) to bring the rakyat's voice," Rafizi said.

Nurul Izzah said the group aimed to bring out the spirit of "Reformasi" for the future of the party.

"For me, this cooperation exhibits the characteristics of Reformasi and positive values and we can combine our strengths to work with other leaders," Nurul Izzah said.

The team will carry out a nationwide campaign tour from April 12 until May 5 to explain their manifesto.
