Surely police can act on assault, kidnapping

YOURSAY ‘What would it be called if Deepa were to forcefully grab her son?’

Islamic NGOs: Taking away son is 'not kidnap'

Aries46: They can call it whatever suits them but by the laws that govern this country, kidnapping is a crime.

N Viran (Izwan Abdullah) married S Deepa under civil law provisions. She was granted custody of her children and an annulment of her marriage under those provisions.

Viran had abandoned his family and secretly converted to Islam. He then secretly converted his minor children and obtained custody. There is no provision for such religious conversions or its benefits under the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act 1976 that governs his marriage to Deepa.

Viran's unilateral actions and entitlement thereof are clearly his own and in gross violation of the inherent rights of Deepa and her children. Abducting his son forcefully from the legal custody of the mother and causing injury to her is nothing less than a serious crime under the Penal Code.

The victim has lodged police reports and action needs to be taken or it amounts to condoning a crime. What would it be called if Deepa were to forcefully grab back her son?

Whatsup: These people are a danger to their own religion, and other communities as well with their obviously shallow understanding of their religion, and a total shame to openly approve the crime committed. It’s a real shame that they are allowed to do this openly.

Maharaja: Why are we listening to these NGOs as though they have the legal right to run this country... to dictate what constitutes kidnap and what does not?

Why do we need a Parliament and its elected representatives if NGOs can decide on matters of law that governs this land? The ruling BN government is so weak that it has no political will to even act in a simple case of a man committing a criminal offence.

The judiciary is so weak that it has no guts to charge the offender for contempt of a court ruling. No wonder when MH370 went missing, the whole government has been found to have gone missing themselves too. Condoning these breeds incompetence.

Rayfire: This is more of a family problem as opposed to a religious problem. What is the motive of the person who converted to another religion and then forcefully took the child away from his rightful guardian by force?

Please don't justify this inconsiderate act in the name of religion.

Swot Strategist: Read carefully: Shamsul Azhar Yahya, the secretary of the Coalition of Islamic NGOs, said, “Based on the facts, I think what has been said in the newspapers is not 100 percent true. Using the word 'kidnap' is not appropriate to describe Izwan’s action.”

It means you are unsure and yet you said based on facts? Is this how you defend good Islamic principles?

Islam is a beautiful universal religion that brings noble values to mankind. Regrettably, it is humans like these skewed religious bigots and Muslim NGOs that are interpreting and promoting it in their own ways to serve their own narrow selfish religious agenda.

Respect, loving kindness, fairness, freedom, peace, harmony, etc, are being eroded daily in Malaysia instigated by racist politicians and religious deviants who are playing this religion to the hilt and blatantly bringing ill-repute to Islam and to all good practising Muslims at large.

True Muslims must rise and voice out against the stupidity of a few to promote good Islamic values.

Negarawan: One of the worst types of human cruelty is to deprive children of their mother's love.

In the case of Izwan vs Deepa, the two children have stated their wish to be with their mother, who has provided proper care for them, despite the fact that the irresponsible husband left the family for more than two years without even providing any financial support.

The civil court delivered a sound judgment based on the couple's Hindu civil marriage, in the presence of both parties.

The sad state of increasing inter-religious and inter-racial disharmony and discord have not only polarised the country, but also divided the Muslim Malays. Pro-Umno and extremist Islamic groups are quick to seize any opportunity for publicity.

I believe that these extremist groups do not represent the majority of Muslims. I urge our peace-loving and compassionate Muslim brothers and sisters to look upon cases such as Izwan vs Deepa and proclaim the true Islamic teachings, and not let the extremists tarnish Islam.

Debater: I feel that these extremists demean Islam. They make Islam into an insecure religion that can only survive by forcing others to convert. They are not about preaching the beauty of Islam.

They are turning Islam into a religion of bullies by imposing their will on others. Real Muslims, please stand up to them.

Observer: I am embarrassed as a Muslim. The rational voices of Muslims are being undermined by the government-backed radicals, the government-controlled Islamic agencies and ministries.

We will voice out against these extremists, but fellow Malaysians of different races and religions must play their part and support the efforts of rational Muslims and not be extreme as these Muslim NGOs and polarise the country by putting everyone in the same basket.

SpongeBob: “Islam is not man's ultimate justification to do as he pleases - it is, instead, a religion built on reason and evidence.

“If each of us asks the ustaz for the causes of his religious opinions, then we should, by doing so, help realise the principles of Islam and thus improve intellectual discussion in our own community.” - Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin in ‘Islam in Malaysia: Perceptions & Facts’.

My4hope: How could you expect other people to respect your religion if such a straightforward case of "kidnap" could be justified in the name of your religion?

Please explain why it’s not kidnapping?
