BN will not heed calls to sit out of the Bukit Gelugor by-election, with MCA confirming that it will field a candidate.

MCA vice president Chua Tee Yong said the party has yet to decide on a candidate for the polls triggered by the sudden demise of incumbent Karpal Singh in a road accident last week.

"Karpal's death is still fresh in our minds and we have no plans to make a decision in a hurry," he was quoted by the New Straits Times as saying.

This would be the second by-election to be contested by MCA this year, the first being in Kajang in March. Both Kajang and Bukit Gelugor are Pakatan Rakyat strongholds.

Meanwhile, the daily also reported that DAP will meet tomorrow to discuss its own candidate.

State DAP chief Chow Kon Yeow also denied that the party has decided to field Karpal's son Ramkarpal, 39.

Karpal garnered 68 percent of the votes to win with an overwhelming majority of 41,778 votes in the 13th general election.

It was his third term as Bukit Gelugor MP, having doubled his winning majority in 2013 compared to 2008.
