Obama wears 'Bolehland' blinkers in Malaysia
YOURSAY ‘Which country threatens its own minority communities with violence?’
Obama: Discrimination a hurdle for M'sia's success
Fairplayer: US President Barack Obama, why didn't you hit out at those who practise corruption, hypocrisy, tyranny, racism, ‘ketuanan Melayu’, religious bigotry, Islamisation, hudud, Christian and Chinese bashings, injustice, inequality, unfairness in all forms, abuse of power, gerrymandering, election briberies, stealing from the nation's coffers - everything that runs against the vein of democracy?
I am most interested to know what the world's most powerful and greatest democratic country has to say about a minority government that seized power through fraud.
Swipenter: Without racial and religious discrimination and constant demonisation of the minorities, fascist Umno Baru would not be able survive.
The Umno Baru fascist government even has an official arm called BTN (Biro Tatanegara) to ensure discrimination of minorities are justified in the eyes of the majority and to promote Ketuanan Melayu doctrine and religious supremacy.
They even fund right-wing Malay NGOs like Perkasa to carry out their racist agenda. I am sure the American intelligence would have briefed Obama on this before his official visit to Bolehland.
Bolehland is the only country practicing apartheid-like policies since the demise of the apartheid South African regime under the white supremacists' rule.
Which country in this day and age threatens its own minority communities with violence and bloodshed if they don't submit to official discrimination by the majority?
Gerard Lourdesamy: In Malaysia, there is no discrimination per se but affirmative action policies that are implemented in a way to ensure discrimination, discontent and disenfranchisement in the public and private sectors and generally in national life so that minorities will always feel unwanted and unappreciated despite having lived in this country for three or four generations.
The majority is fed with a daily dose of hate, fear and insecurity by the ruling elite simply to stay in power. Pandering to racial and religious sentiments is deemed necessary to preserve majority rule and hegemony.
The frequently used excuse is that the minority control the economy and do not want to share. But the minority worked hard for this and are willing to share with people who are capable, competent and hardworking.
Cogito Ergo Sum: Well, finally you said it. You acknowledged that discrimination leads to a downward spiral in a society. Discrimination in Malaysia is institutionalised. It is covert and overtly done.
It's the new and stylised form of apartheid. And it is getting worse in intensity daily as officials fail to take action against openly bigoted statements.
Your friend and partner, PM Najib Razak, is the head of the regime perpetuating this open discrimination. You can't tell it to his face but at least you have broadly hinted that it’s wrong. Good on you.
Casey: The fight for economic existence is an ongoing war. But BN's aversion to change and complacency in dismantling the failed doctrine of Dr Mahathir Mohamad's socio-economic policies - with its fundamental and structural flaws - is leaving us lagging further and further behind in a fast changing world.
In fact, these structural flaws are now hanging like the sword of Damocles - threatening to derail our continuing progress as a nation and our future.
Our dated socio-economic formulas no longer work. And if mismanagement continues to be tolerated and left unchallenged, it is almost certain that we will lose the war.
We have lost our competitiveness in wages. Now, we are losing our competitive edge in infrastructure as other developing nations open up their respective economies.
In less than 20 years, one of our most valuable natural resources - oil - will be fully depleted; and land will no longer be an advantage. African nations and other members of the Asean, all with similar climate to ours, have started to convert their lands for economic use.
We are no longer able to compete in labour-intensive industries; and neither are we adequately equipped to move up the economic value chain, a result of brain drain.
As a nation, we are fast being marginalised. That notwithstanding, we are still not comfortable with ourselves, our heritage, while the world passes us by.
Clever Voter: Discrimination is universal and relative. We should not be distracted from the actual concerns of public abuse and widespread corruption across all sectors which are even more damaging in the long run.
Public trust in judiciary and security is on the decline pushing the country's stability to its tipping point. Corruption is the number one threat.
YF: If an African minority can become a president in a white majority country from the West, what does that tell people who continue to spew racial hatred and insults and yet claim to be Muslims?
Where did the West get their values on equality? Christianity? Is that why the fanatics here ban Christianity because it does not jive with their religion? Something is seriously wrong here.
Mosquitobrain: What a nice combination. Obama playing the instruments, with Najib singing. Call me a pessimist, I'm 101 percent sure Najib do not have the political will for change.
He has too many baggage to carry. The 47 percent can keep on dreaming and be complacent. The 51 percent shall keep screaming for change. We do not need external interference.
Kangkung: Someone forgot to inform the US president that the core tenet of Umno government is racism.
