Isma to be probed, but don't expect action
YOURSAY ‘What was said is clearly inflammatory, seditious and incites hatred.’
IGP: Isma head being probed under Sedition Act
Tholu: Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar, you denied the accusation that the police turn a blind eye to certain groups due to their political affiliations.
However, your inaction against people like Malay rights group Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali, vice-president Zulkifli Noordin and National Defence University lecturer Ridhuan Tee Abdullah, despite their incendiary and seditious comments, makes your statement hollow.
Don't try to pull wool over the eyes of 30 million people by convoluting the truth. Some 52 percent of the population have already realised the follies of the police, attorney-general, judiciary and the government.
Khalid, it is not just statements by irresponsible people or organisations such as Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) that can stir racial tension.
The acts of the government, such as charging Teresa Kok with sedition, the funding of Perkasa, the nomination of Zulkifli for an MP seat, and the tacit support of Biro Tata Negara’s (National Civics Bureau) racist lecturers, just to mention a few, can stir racial tension too.
Corgito Ergo Sum: Let’s put it another way. If this was done by anyone else not aligned to the ruling coalition, action would have come thick and fast. Now, you say you are probing.
Probing what? What has been said is clearly inflammatory, seditious and incites hatred. If a church is now fire-bombed, what will you do? Investigate also?
Anonymous_3faa: Indeed, why the need to probe Isma for sedition at all? The statements are so extreme that Isma leader Abdullah Zaik Abdullah Rahman should be arrested immediately and charged.
And while you are doing that, what about that Indonesian scholar Menahem Ali who preached anti-Christian extremism at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM)? Has he been deported and the organisers "probed"?
Shanandoah: Khalid, you are groping in the dark when all this rubbish is going on in broad daylight. How long does it take to probe the Isma president?
Abasir: I am willing to bet that Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will say that a threat such as Abdullah's call on Malays to " correct the historical mistake " with regard to the Chinese is not a crime. This is because no Chinese has been ‘killed’ yet.
Onyourtoes: IGP, we don't believe you anymore. You should probe yourself for contempt, for bias and for incompetence. If you ever charge Isma and Malay rights group Perkasa for sedition, I promise to stop writing in Malaysiakini for one month.
Wira: When Perkasa president Ibrahim called for the Bible to be burnt, the police also mentioned that a probe , under the Sedition Act, would be conducted.
So what is more seditious? Burning the Bible or making a satirical video that the BN government had made Sabah a dangerous place for visitors?
Swipenter: "We will not compromise on anyone who threatens national security regardless of political links," said police chief Khalid.
But Khalid, you are sounding like a broken record when seditious remarks and inflammatory speeches are spouting from the favoured groups of NGOs and their leaders.
Doc: Cut the crap, Khalid. Any Malaysian with half a brain can clearly comprehend that Abdullah Zaik's statement that Chinese Malaysians are intruders is clearly seditious.
This Isma group and Boko Haram in Nigeria are just the same. They claim to be championing Islam but in fact they are defiling the good name of all Muslims by justifying their reprehensible actions as Islamic.
Ketuanan Rakyat: IGP is putting up a show. Let him and the attorney-general prove to us that they are serious before we believe them. Malaysians are becoming better informed now. So, please stop all the play acting and do what is expected of you.
Anonymous#007: The rejection of hudud is a social and constitutional responsibility of patriotic Malaysians.
First, the social cost and implications of a society of maimed citizens is not feasible nor humane. I would rather a thief be made to do community work.
Second, the original constitution clearly provided for freedom of religion - one is free to choose and practice the religion of his choice without infringing on the social/civil rights of others. In proposing, discussing and forcing the implementation of hudud in Malaysia, those responsible are committing a crime.
Islam (the religion) has its merits, but it would hurt the society and nation when followers start to force their own beliefs and interpretation on others, including followers of the same religion.
The Arab Spring countries are good examples: the people were really fighting for religious freedom, and that can only be achieved through a democracy because the leaders will answer to real people.
Jessy43: Fanatics need exposure to world history and to the innumerable cultures found around the world.
Make them study sociology, anthropology and psychology. Let them study all the major religions and their philosophies and they will not behave the way they do now.
The Education Ministry has the most power to bring about change.
Kenneth_2585: This country is hopeless and beyond repair, if you are capable and still concerned about the future of your next generation, migrate to somewhere else that appreciates your contribution to the society.
Trust me, it is much easier to get yourself adapted to a new environment than to change the deep-seated mentality of the majority here towards the minority non-bumiputera.
For those who are less capable, they can keep dreaming that this country will change one day. Some people still believe in miracles.
