National Harmony Act an exercise in futility
YOURSAY ‘Mark my word, it will not even pass through the cabinet.’
New bills moot jail time for bigotry
Vijay47: All these bills look very good and sensible but by the time they go through the demands that will be made by Malay racist bodies, they would not be recognised at all.
By the way, the bills will make "unfair discrimination" illegal. Great. How about "fair discrimination"?
I suppose the statements by Perkasa, Isma, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Zulkifli Noordin, Ridhuan Tee Abdullah, Utusan Malaysia et al cannot be acted upon presently as there is no law that they are breaking.
Except opposition leaders Teresa Kok and Karpal Singh, of course.
Thinking Right: There are already laws to this effect, it is just that the government of the day chose to be selective in their prosecution.
They think that only the opposition are capable of committing a crime in these areas.
Yoda: Using laws to criminalise bigotry is only addressing the symptoms and will have limited impact. We cannot legislate away the root causes that can be traced to years of state sanctioned "brain-washing".
The National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) should be bold enough to tell the government to show its sincerity first by closing down Biro Tatanegara (BTN).
Only then can we start seriously addressing national issues as Malaysians sans our ethnic lenses.
Guns 'n' Roses: Dear NUCC, I'm awfully sorry I have to say this but this is nothing but high hopes and wishful thinking.
These bills will never see the light of day so long as the country is run by the present minority government. Again, NUCC, your intentions are truly commendable, but I do not have one bit of hope that this will ever succeed.
Anyway, in case it does succeed, the first person to be convicted under the National Harmony Act and sentenced to the maximum of seven years’ jail and a fine of RM5,000 shall be Ridhuan Tee Abdullah.
His hate-mongering and racial bigotry are doing a great disservice to Islam.
Homesick: This is a good bill to pass. But it will never materialised. There is no way Umno Baru will allow it. Divide and rule is their most potent weapon.
Just look at all the recent orchestrated racial abuses being hurled out by the so-called NGOs.
Oh Ya?: Yes, they are noble but one can bet that the ruling elite would not adopt it for by doing so they will have to close down Perkasa, Isma and shut up Ridhuan Tee and the like.
Hank Marvin: These people may think they can control the bill which eventually become an act of parliament.
Just wait, it will become a monster which even the maker cannot control. They can even become the victims of the law later. Remember this, NUCC panel member Mujahid Yusof Rawa.
Tell The Truth: I believe the NUCC is sincere in suggesting the said bills up for implementation but mark my word, it will not even pass through the cabinet because many non-bumiputera cabinet ministers have no balls to vote for it whilst all the bumi ministers will vote against it.
This is eventually an exercise in futility.
Apa Nama: The bill sounds good but it goes against ‘agenda Melayu’. Perkasa and Isma will have the final say, not you and me. Mark my words.
Teresa Kok sedition charge a 'new low'
Ace: Threatening another May 13 is not sedition? Storming a state legislative assembly and menacing a state assemblyperson are not serious acts? But Teresa Kok's video is seditious? What a warped and sick government...
JBond2: A desperate regime will do anything to stay in power, so do not expect any backflip. Umno is trying to destroy strong political opponents.
MacMac: It appears that anything logical said by the opposition is now seditious.
Sakit Hati Ku: This is Bolehland - they never fail to entertain the rakyat with these Umno circus clowns and nincompoops with their amazing acts. Do we now doubt this saying, "Action speaks louder than words"?
Magnus: Dear attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail, please step in and get rid of the nonsensical Sedition Act 1948 before you run the risk of being prosecuted by the rakyat one day for democratic non-accountability and dereliction of your professional public role and learned duties.
Bau: US President Barack Obama wasn't too embarrassed to take a selfie with Ah Jib Gor (Prime Minister Najib Razak).
Just let the embassy issue a statement deploring, regretting or abhorring this or that action by the BN criminal regime, while continuing with backroom discussions on how to impose the New World Order through the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) on the entire planet.
