Two top Chinese BN leaders - MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong and Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong - were caught off guard when approached by a disgruntled Pengerang resident who walked 500 kilometres to protest the relocation of a Chinese cemetery there.

Wee (right in photo) was seen walking away without uttering a word after bumping into Chua Peng Sian, who was in Parliament to hand over a memorandum on the matter today.

Chua, who is upset over the cemetery having to make way for the Petronas Refinery and Petrochemicals Integrated Development (Rapid) project, asked Wee to make a stand as he is said to be joining the cabinet soon.

However, Wee, who is Ayer Hitam MP, only smiled after listening to Chua and walked away.

Upon leaving the Parliament building, Chua said he bumped into Mah and raised the same issue, but he got the same unresponsive feedback as well.

He claimed that the newly-elected Teluk Intan MP left the place, reasoning that he had to catch up on an appointment.

A total of 3,400 graves in all will be relocated from the Pengerang Chinese cemetery in stages, starting last March, to make way for Rapid.

Chua, who is acting chairperson of the Save Pengerang NGO Alliance, initiated his protest walk from Pengerang in Johor to Kuala Lumpur 12 days ago and spent last night at Dataran Merdeka.

He led a group of 40 to walk to the Parliament building at 10.30am today, and handed a memorandum to several Pakatan Rakyat MPs, before continuing his journey to the Petronas Twin Towers, in a bid to meet the Rapid chief executive officer later.

After submitting the memorandum to a Petronas senior officer, Chua hold a press conference and chided Wee and Mah for being unconcerned when the Chinese cemetery land faced requisition.

“Wee is a Johor MCA leader but remains silent over Pengerang cemetery issue, and he fails to be the so-called Chinese leader.

“I don't think he can help the Chinese, and he should not be in the cabinet,” Chua said.

As for Mah's cold response, Chua said Gerakan should quit BN for not making a single statement on the issue.
