Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is expected to appoint Gerakan and MCA leaders as government ministers today in a widely anticipated cabinet reshuffle.

Berita Harian today quoted sources as saying Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong may be appointed minister in the Prime Minister's Department while MCA president Liow Tiong Lai and deputy president Wee Ka Siong will be appointed as transport minister and deputy finance minister respectively.

The appointments can only be confirmed after today’s cabinet meeting.

"Speculation has been stirred further by the fact that Najib will make these appointments today, as he is scheduled to visit Teluk Intan tomorrow to officiate the Perumahan Rakyat1Malaysia (PR1MA) project," the newspaper reported on its front page.

Najib had promised the Teluk Intan voters last month that he would appoint Mah into his cabinet if BN won the by-election. Mah won by 238 votes against DAP candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud.

The appointment of MCA ministers also followed MCA’s passing of a resolution on Feb 23, reversing a 2011 resolution not to accept cabinet positions if it loss badly in the 2013 general election.

Before GE13, Liow and Wee ( right ) were, respectively, health minister and deputy education minister.

Sources were also reported by Berita Harian as saying that three Umno ministers may have their portfolios switched while another may be dropped.

They added that Parti Tindakan Rakyat Sarawak (Teras) may also get a deputy minister’s post while the MIC ministers were expected to remain at status quo.
