In reference to the article, ‘ PKR top leaders implicated in bribery claim ’ Malaysiakini regrets that the report was published while awaiting Dr A Xavier Jayakumar’s comments.

 

The journalist who wrote the report did call Xavier five times without receiving any response. She further left her name and contact number with Xavier’s assistant to further attempt receiving a response from him. In addition, she left an SMS message requesting Xavier to urgently return her call.

 

While the said report, which was published at 3.35pm on June 5, stated that attempts were being made to reach Xavier for his comments, Malaysiakini regrets having published the said report before receiving the comments.

 

We however did publish Xavier’s full denial in a separate report at 8pm on the same day titled ‘ PKR's Xavier denies bribery claim ’. Malaysiakini has further inserted Xavier’s denial into the first report as well.

 

Once again, Malaysiakini regrets that the first report was published before Xavier’s comments were obtained.
