DAP's Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo today lodged a police report against inspector general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar over the his refusal to act on civil court orders in recent interfaith custody battles.

Gobind ( right ) in his report said that the IGP is refusing to obey court orders and such a statement would have "heavy impact" on the judicial system in the country.

The report was lodged at 12pm at the Cheras police station. Gobind lodged the report in his capacity as the DAP legal bureau chief.

The report kicks off DAP's plan to lodge similar reports nationwide , as announced by party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng yesterday.

The IGP has been heavily criticised for the police's inaction in the face of two court rulings in the custody cases of S Deepa and M Indira Ghandi where the non-Muslim mothers had been granted custody.

Khalid's excuse was that he was "sandwiched" between "two systems", that is the civil court rulings, and the syariah court system that had earlier favoured the Muslim fathers.

However the Ipoh High Court in M Indira's case had specifically pointed out that the High Court supersedes syariah court.

Likewise, in the S Deepa case, the judge ruled that the marriage in question had taken place under civil law and was to be dealt with by the civil court.

"If a valid court order is not executed then the justice system would be affected and the people's confidence in the judiciary will worsen," Gobind said in his police report.

 
He urged the police to investigate the matter thoroughly and take "appropriate actions".
