Mais can keep the Bibles, more can be printed
YOURSAY ‘Keeping the Bibles will only smear the name of these religious bodies.’
Mais defies exco, refuses to return seized Bibles
Ferdtan:
Selangor Islamic Council (Mais) chairperson Mohamad Adzib Mohd Isa refused to return the Bibles seized from Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM) even after attorney-general (AG) has closed the case.
They wanted the courts to decide. How stupid can that be? Don’t they know the law - even if they don’t recognise who their bosses (like the Selangor government) are?
We are not lawyers, but let us teach these lawless and troublemakers some law. After the seizure of the bibles committed by the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais), the AG reviewed its investigation papers.
The AG’s Chambers (which is the sole authority to determine whether there is a case to go to court) decided there is no case. It is the prerogative of the AG and they have that inherent power when it comes to interpretation of the law of the country.
So who is Mohamad Adzib who thinks he can defy the AG’s decision? Does he know the law of the country, or does he think he is above the law? Mohamad Adzib, how can you ask the court to decide on the case when AG has already stopped it at its doorstep?
We are utterly disgusted with the recent incidents (like the police chief not following High Court’s judgments) whereby laws had been totally disregarded and dismissed by civil and religious institutions with contempt.
We know sometimes we joke that, 'the law is an ass'. Now Mais is treating it just like one. We are certainly a lawless country.
Kit P: Section 407A of the Criminal Procedure Code is meant to cover the disposition of evidence in the aftermath of a criminal trial.
In such cases, there is sometimes a dispute or uncertainty as to who is the rightful owner of the items held by the authorities, and the claimant must come before a magistrate to get a court order for their release.
For these Bibles, there is no criminal case, and the procedure is very simple. The items are to be returned to the owner.
If this were a normal police case, it would have been closed the very next morning. The evidence room has limited space, and they have no interest in holding on to items that are no longer relevant.
Mais is deliberately making up its own rules to create obstacles to the return of the bibles. This amounts to mala fide (malicious intentions).
Anonymous_3e86: Well, keep the Bibles. More can be printed. This only shows the arrogance and stupidity of these religious bodies.
The decision by the AG is already a symbolic victory for the Christians. Keeping the bibles will only smear the name of these religious bodies.
1Mal: Confusion? Is that how deep your faith is? How about Muslims in Sabah and Sarawak? They are not confused.
It is happening here, soon it will be in Sabah and Sarawak. So watch out Christians in Sabah and Sarawak.
The ‘Allah’ word has been used here for a long time, even without our Christians from Sabah and Sarawak being here in the peninsula, when we prayed in Bahasa Malaysia.
Paul Warren: Mais, I guess the fact that you are causing confusion amongst Christians and all non-Muslims as well as a large part of Muslims themselves does not matter to you.
After all, it is required of you, where you can, to regard non-Muslims as infidels and dhimmis and your attitude is in compliance with that requirement.
So why not be honest, as I am sure your religion also teaches you to be honest, and tell us the truth. Or are you taking the other route that tells you that you can be deceptive towards us.
Dr Jacob George: So what is the message Mais is sending to Malaysians and the world? You are untouchable and above the law?
For the record, we already had rogue agents and thugs threatening, gatecrashing into assemblies, we witnessed in horror and sadness the threat to burn our religious books, the utterances of seditious statements complete with banners, race and religious baiting and hate mongering.
We have the constant seizing of Bibles, snatching of dead bodies, attacking transgender persons at a Muslim wedding, blatantly refusing to adhere to an order of the court regarding the custody of children born out of civil wedding?
Our Holy Sacraments were defiled by two rouge journalists of the worst kind and the torching of our churches. So what is next?
Is the US state department, United Nations, the European Union and self-proclaimed guardians of democracy in comatose to do what is right to protect minority citizens of the world under siege?
Odin: Mohamad Adzib, you, like Jati leader Hasan Ali and the rest who have implied and claimed that Christians had been trying to draw Muslims away from Islam, are a blatant liar.
It is you all who have defiled and shamed Islam. Despite all your claims, you have not charged even one Christian for proselytising to Muslims.
Cogito Ergo Sum: When the AG and the High Court is ignored with impunity, it means we are in state of anarchy. It means that government officials themselves are disobeying the law.
If so-called officials can ignore the courts and the office of the highest legal officer, why should ordinary folk obey the law? This is a farce and is a breakdown of democracy.
Magnus: I suggest the AG do his job and advise the secular government to propose a bill to Parliament to repeal 121(1A) and reinstate Article 121 to its original form of simple clarity and so revert to judicial and legal common sense to stop the current national circus of high nonsense descending further into the anarchic toilets of legal and constitutional depravity.
Guns 'n' Roses: Hello Mais and Jais, you are not preserving the sanctity of Islam in Selangor or anywhere else.
You are, instead, giving Islam an increasingly ugly image as a religion of great intolerance, and one which is absolutely lacking in compassion. Your attitude and behaviour are nothing but an open display of religious arrogance and chauvinism.
Next, Mais and Jais will insist that one must get a Syariah Court order for the release of those Bibles.
