Selangor MB to meet sultan on Bible issue
Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim will have an audience with Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, to get his permission whether to release the 321 Bibles seized by the Selangor Islamic Department (Jais) in January.
Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim will have an audience with Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah tomorrow to get the ruler's permission on whether to release or not the 321 Bibles seized by the Selangor Islamic Department (Jais) in January.
Khalid said the state exco this afternoon had discussed the various options to be proposed to the sultan ( right ).
The audience will be tomorrow morning, Khalid told reporters at the sidelines of the state legislative assembly seating this evening.
"I had a meeting with the Selangor exco this afternoon to discuss the issue and I will have an audience with the Sultan tomorrow.
“We will only make an announcement after that,” said the menteri besar.
Return or destroy?
This latest development follows yesterday's meeting between the state government, the Selangor Islamic council (Mais) and Jais along with the Selangor mufti yesterday which did not reach a conclusive decision.
Khalid said he and his exco members wanted the Bibles be returned but Mais and Jais wanted them to be destroyed.
"The ruler will be given options on whether to adopt Mais's decision or the state government's decision based on the recommendation made by attorney-general," he said.
It was reported last week that attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail had decided to close the case.
