Najib muddles Bible issue further with ‘advice’

YOURSAY ‘His advice appears to be deliberately calculated to add confusion.’

Respect AG's decision on Bible, PM tells Mais

Wg321: PM Najib Razak must make a firm decision. Is he supporting the decision of Selangor Islamic Council (Mais) or is he supporting the decision of the attorney-general (AG) concerning the confiscated bibles?

If Dr Mahathir Mohamad is the prime minister today, I am sure he will order (Selangor Department of Islamic Affairs) Jais and Mais to return the confiscated bibles to the Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM). Problem solved.

But Najib is not Mahathir. If he supports the decision of Mais to prosecute BSM, he can kiss goodbye to his two fixed deposits of Sabah and Sarawak.

By the way, the Sarawak state election could be held in two years’ time or earlier. Najib is going against his own 10-point Solution which he endorsed just before the April 16, 2011 Sarawak state election in 2011.

The AG will lose face and nobody will respect him. If I am the AG, I shall resign in shame because I cannot stand such humiliation.

A.A.: At first glance, the headline ‘ Respect AG's decision on Bible, PM tells Mais ’ sounds promising.

But, as one reads the news report, one cannot help having the feeling that there is nothing concrete to it. It sounds more like the PM begging rather than ordering for the law to be respected.

Tholu: What kind of an advice is this to Mais and Jais? Najib’s advice appears to be deliberately calculated to add confusion to the situation and further muddle the issue.

Is it an ‘advice’ to avoid himself from appearing to be biased towards a particular faction of the issue?

The advice appears more to be a veiled signal to the Selangor Islamic authorities and to the AG to delay and protract the issue and eventually charge the BSM for preaching Christianity to Muslims.

His advice to Mais to discuss the issue with the AG is a dead giveaway of his hypocrisy and a betrayal of trust by the minority groups. It is a ridiculous and ludicrous advice that borders on absurdity and lunacy.

Doesn't he know that the AG has already clearly stated that there is no case against BSM? What more is here to discuss?

Najib might as well have kept his mouth shut and said nothing on this issue if it was only to insidiously worsen the situation and further hurt the feelings of the Christians.

Apa Nama: It is too late, Najib. You should have done it from day one. Najib, you are the main reason why we have little Napoleons in every department and government agency. In fact they are one running the country, not you.

Magnus: Like the silliness of having the right to abortion negated for women in the Irish constitution (no doubt to use Christian edict to gain power to control women and override their equal rights and relegate them to second-class status to men without even having the exclusive rights to/of their own body) perhaps it is time for Malaysians to ask why Malaysian Malays are the only citizens to be defined and straight jacketed into a religion/Islam by the federal constitution?

Where does Islam say that anywhere other than its expression that anyone can choose to be a Muslim because that is down to their personal choice of free will. Hindus, Christians, Buddhists and even Jedis believe that to be true too of their religions.

That is why secular democracy allows/tolerates all religions within it as long as they are kept private, peaceful and do not interfere with secular state political governance. So whose real interests are crafty politickers and religious nutters there "defending"?

Proarte: The fact remains that the Malay Bible is meant for Christians. Christians have a different understanding of religion to that of Muslims. So why should Muslims expect the Bible to be consonant with the Quran? This is illogical.

The word ‘Allah’ was used by Christians long before the advent of Islam. So logically, if there is to be any objection to using Allah, then it should rightfully be by Christians who feel that Muslims have perverted the true revealed nature of Allah.

But then freedom of worship is a basic Christian tenet and they will not do this. Muslims too should understand that the Quran explicitly states that Jews, Christians and Muslims worship the same God.

So the burning question is why do Malay Muslims reject the Quran?

Ksn: Is that all you can do Najib, being the PM for 1Malaysia? Do you not think it is proper and the right thing to do is to direct those agencies to take stern action against those who disregard, violate the guarantees in our constitution for all our people and religions, the decisions of the courts?

Why do you tolerate the extremists, giving them the feeling that they above the laws of the nation? What action have you planned to take against your Umno Baru minister who declared that Malaysia is not a secular nation?

I have a suggestion for you, Najib. In the next cabinet meeting, order your members that laws must be obeyed, carried and that if any agency, individuals under them fails to, you will hold the respective ministers responsible, and be sacked from the government.

Do you have the backbone and the gumption to do that? I know you have the authority as the PM to. For once, do something which will earn the respect of the people at home, abroad before the country disintegrate, please, Najib.

Safety First: "The prime minister also said that the Selangor government, Mais and Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) which had full responsibility over the management and administration of Islamic affairs in the state, should decide whether to return the seized Bibles (to BSM) or otherwise."

However, they had already decided even before this statement is made.

Anonymous #15167679: I am 56 years old now. When l was 12 years old (if my memory is correct), I found a toy gun near the compound of my house.

I played with it for a few days and when my papa knew about it later, he told me that it did not belong to me and it must be returned to the rightful owner who must be longing for it.

My papa took the initiative by going to the neighbours and enquired about the found toy pistol and eventually returned it to the boy next door. To this day I am very proud of the action taken by my late father.

My papa is the father to all his children fair and square and please Mr PM, be like my father to all the rakyat if you know what I mean, if that is not too much to ask from you.

Isana: The AG passed the ball to IGP (inspector-general of police), who receives the ball on his right foot and with one touch, passes it to Najib.

With Perkasa and Isma fast coming in with a flying tackle, Captain Najib quickly toe pokes the ball back to AG.

Now that the ball is back at AG's feet - should he pass it to the IGP again or be floored by the flying tackle?

Casey: Like a ship caught in troubled waters; whoever looks at Malaysia today will see that the ship is under the command of an incompetent captain, and powered by corruption, prejudice, bigotry and stupidity.
