A 39-year-old senior civil servant with the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry today claimed trial in a sessions court in Kuala Lumpur to six counts of corruption in securing a 10 percent cut from RM600,000 worth of projects.

Hazmi Samsuddin ( left in photo ), then an assistant officer with the ministry's National Key Results Area, is accused of obtaining a cut in several community development project upgrades carried out in Perak.

The officer is now attached with the Public Services Department.

Hazmi is charged with receiving the payments at the ministry premises in Bukit Perdana, Kuala Lumpur, sometime between June and Oct 2011.

He is charged with:

  • Corruptly receiving 10 percent of a total of  RM99,540 from Sykt Gerbang Restu Enterprise for a project to upgrade and improve Kampung Panchor Hall in Pengkalan Baru, Perak;

 

  • Corruptly getting 10 percent of a total of RM99,640 from a project by Fallah Entreprise to upgrade and improve the Kampung Pengkalan Bharu Hall in Manjung, Perak;

    •  

  • Corruptly getting 10 percent of a total payment of RM99,520, from Sykt Gugusan Bina Entreprise to upgrade and improve the Kampung Matang Kerian Hall in Pengkalan Bharu, Manjung, Perak;

    •  

  • Corruptly getting 10 percent of a total of RM99,630 from Sykt Sungai Batu Ironworks for work on the Kampung Tengah Pengkalan Baharu Hall in Manjung, Perak;

    •  

  • Corruptly getting 10 percent of a total of RM98,778 from Sykt Redzuan Bin Azit for upgrading and improving works in Kampung Tualang Beruas, Perak; and

    •  

  • Corruptly getting 10 percent of a total of a total of RM98,455 from Sykt Perkongsian Kisa to upgrade and improve Kampung Padang Gajah Trong hall in Bukit Gantang, Perak.

    • The money is from the ministry's National Welfare Foundation.

    If convicted, Hazmi faces a maximum jail term of 20 years and a fine amounting to five times the  amount he received as stipulated in each charge.

    Sessions judge Ahmad Zamzani Mohd Zain fixed bail at RM60,000 for all six charges and set July 21 for mention.
