Gerakan vice-president Kohilan Pillay today asked the police to also take action to return the son of S Deepa, a Hindu mother from Negri Sembilan, who is locked in an interfaith custody battle with her Muslim convert ex-husband following the inspector-general of police’s (IGP) order to find the youngest child of M Indira Gandhi in a similar case in Ipoh yesterday.

IGP Khalid Abu Bakar yesterday directed the police to act on the High Court order to arrest Indira’s ex husband Ridhuan Abdullah and return the couple’s six-year-old daughter Prasana Diksa to her mother.

Deepa, similarly, had obtained a recovery order for her son, V Mithran, from the High Court in Seremban, who was taken away by her ex-husband Izwan Abdullah shortly after she won custody of both her children earlier this year.

“The police are urged to take equivalent action on the case as required by the court order to relocate Izwan and ensuring the return of Deepa’s children,” Kohilan ( left ) said in a statement.

He also reminded that the police “must remain impartial” in this matter.

“Personal views and emotions must not affect their discretion and professional judgment in office,” he said.

Khalid previously refused to act on the court order, saying that there were contradicting judgments dished out by the civil court and the Syariah Court in both interfaith custody battles involving Deepa and Indira.
