The three teams that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak expressed support for have crashed out of the World Cup.
So the joke that has been circulating is that Najib has jinxed Spain, England and Brazil.
And now Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin is hoping that his boss would not cast a spell of doom on his favourite team Argentina, which will play against Germany in the finals.
Khairy is reported to have made the joke during an interview with Radio Era , after inviting Malaysians to join Najib and him at Dataran Merdeka to watch the match on Monday morning.
"The PM will be there with us. I hope he doesn't support Argentina," he said.
Asked why, the youth and sports minister, quipped: "Because all the teams which the PM supported have lost."
Germany's supporters are also concerned since Najib wished the team luck following his reprimand of Umno MP Bung Moktar Radin over the latter's Hitler tweet.
"This should be a time of celebration for Germany, and we wish them all the best in the final," Najib had said in a statement yesterday.
Before the World Cup, Najib said he was sentimental about England, liked the way Brazil played but predicted that Spain would retain the title.
Spain, which was crushed 5-1 in its opening match against Holland, and England failed to clear the group stage.
Brazil suffered its worst ever defeat in its semi-final match against Germany, in which the host nation lost 7-1.
