Why recycle, when incinerators big bucks

YOURSAY 'Rahman, placing recycle bins here and there doesn't mean you have done your job.'

MCA: Halt Kepong incinerator if folk say 'no'

Appum: Why not build the incinerator in Putrajaya as maintained by the Housing and Local Government Minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan, as he says it is very safe and clean. Why say one thing but not do it to show sincerity?

He thinks the people today are still as gullible as those in the rural areas of yesteryears. Why not build one in the Malay heritage area Kampong Baru, Kuala Lumpur and see whether the residents there would be opposed to it?

Habib Rak: Recently Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming posted a picture where rubbish was scattered all around the incinerator plant in Pulau Tioman. This makes the people of Kepong very concerned.

Rahman Dahlan must address it and give assurance that such incidents will not happen. The standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure best practices in managing the incinerator plant must be made public.

Anonymous_1398315636 : Waste management is big business. The incinerator costs hundreds of millions of ringgit, thus big money is to be made. We all know very well why Rahman Dahlan is pushing hard. We know who are behind such scams. We know who will benefit from such concessions. Down with cronyism!

Dahlan's 'not segregating waste' remark draws flak

Firenet: Instead of going to Japan, why don't we learn from Indonesia - Surabaya has a very successful waste management system that reduced waste by 30 percent in five years. Both of our countries are similar in culture, climate, and education level.

The incinerator is fourth option in waste management, before which are 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' (3R). Where are they? Come on, Rahman Dahlan, we are not stupid, but we've got a stupid government whose leaders only care for their own pockets.

James_3392: Never mind that Putrajaya does not produce enough waste, there is plenty of waste produced in surrounding areas like Kajang, Bangi, Nilai, Serdang, Puchong etc. that can be easily transported to feed the incinerator in Putrajaya. Build it in Putrajaya to showcase your confidence and management competency, if the PM and all ministers can live with the incinerator in their backyard - who are you to doubt the efficacy of the incinerator?

Apa Nama : Abdul Rahman Dahlan, why you show your usual stupidity? By placing recycle bins here and there, around shopping complexes and other places, it does not mean you had done your job.

There has been no public education or information on a large scale so that every member of the public knows what is 3R. It is that simple. After decades of placing all these bins here and there, and have them turn into regular rubbish bins, you justify building an incinerator here and there simply because you say people have failed in your previous mission on waste management?

Are you going to benefit from these incinerator projects due to some cronies? Otherwise, you will not be that pushy. Not everyone is stupid like you. We know what is going on in this country.

You'd better do your homework on this issue properly before opening your mouth. Otherwise you will just shoot your mouth off. Most of the public do not even understand what recycling is all about. It shows failure on your part.

Well Thats Fantastic: Where are our recycling bins so we can separate our rubbish?

Basically: Rahman Dahlan talks rubbish, literally. So what happens after we segregate our waste, who collects them? There is no system to do so, and KL City Council (DBKL) provides no bins for plastics, glass, hazardous items like bulbs and batteries etc. So whose fault is it?

As it is, the only recycling service is done by the 'old newspaper' vans, and I don't suppose DBKL hires them?

YUNoAnon: Rahman Dahlan, how about you build recycling facilities first, before you blame the people?

MyMalaysia: Agreed, set up the recycling centre/system first before we spend big money on incinerators. Even the garbage truck that comes collecting in most places are in unacceptable condition.

Angry Citizen: Rahman Dahlan, if there is one thing you can do as a serving MP, it would be to put your life and soul into getting the government to push the recycling agenda.

MyMalaysia: I am not sure if he does his homework before he speaks.

Cocomomo: He may be competing to be the most illiterate and incompetent minister around.

Mosquitobrain: The BN‑Umno government's SOP: implement, build, run and leave the rest (big white elephants) to the people (to pay more taxes). Just take a look at the many cut-corners projects implemented in the country.

All are run by half-past-six, unqualified, inefficient and corrupt lawmakers and contractors who actually do not even know what is going on. All they care and are concerned for, are when their big commissions are going to be banked into their foreign accounts.

To be exact, all the commissions are even paid in a lump sum and up front, before project starts.

Kilgore: There is no profit or graft to be made from recycling, but there is from building incinerators.
