YOURSAY ‘He has to do what is right for himself, his party and his political ideals.’

The final days of an MB

Raja Chulan: Based on the water restructuring issue, water rationing, the seizure of bibles from the Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM) and the construction of the Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex), it is absolutely clear that Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim must resign.

By the way, the general cleanliness and maintenance work, including rubbish collection around my area in Subang has worsened under Khalid compared with the BN days.

No one, absolutely no one, should be indispensable to lead Selangor Pakatan Rakyat. Let us give another person a chance. He can't do worse than Khalid.

Kim Quek: This is one of those testing moments in politics when true statesmanship shines. I believe Khalid has in him to do what is right for himself, his party and the political ideals he has devoted himself for.

As for the electorate, do not be over-dismayed. It is the nature of politics that such upheavals occur from time to time.

Martin Gilbert: In this turbulent political sea, Khalid is drowning and a man drowning will not go quietly. Unless he shows he is made of stern stuff and that indeed he is as noble and as selfless as he has made himself out to be.

So, Khalid, you can still hold your head high and go gently into the night and pass on the baton, or else remain forever a wretch in defeat.

Observer: Many of those who voted for Pakatan will definitely not do so again if PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim bows to petty internal politics to get rid of this really great MB.

Added to that, if Azmin Ali is going to be MB, it’s even more reason not to vote Pakatan. Just wait and see what happens to the funds accumulated and how cronyism will creep in again.

SSDhaliwal: While I think it is high time Khalid was ousted for poor leadership, replacing him with PKR deputy president Azmin Ali is not a good idea.

The ideal person for the job would be PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as she is not tainted by scandal.

Basically: The power is in Pakatan's hands. I used to support Khalid's good work in his first term, but his billions in reserve, as many have pointed out, is commendable in how it was achieved, but not how it is being spent.

Considering the roads and public facilities are no better than when they took over in 2008, that is a major minus point for Khalid.

He should have spent the reserves to spruce up the state and then maintaining it in that condition would have been far cheaper, than mending one hole after another.

Drains stink, walkways broken, pedestrian bridges over drains are close to falling apart - that is not a good report card. Not to mention his sudden generosity towards Umno crony projects. Does he expect the people who voted for him to be so stupid?

Additionally, if Pakatan wants to look good out of this issue, it should get feedback from the people. We have a right to choose our new MB, not just let it go to the one who jostles for it most.

Perhaps it should go to a woman, and perhaps to a non-Malay?

Ian2003: I used to support Khalid but recent issues highlight that he doesn't even listen to his exco’s opinion, much less the people. He is just another Mahathir in the making where only he alone knows best.

Abasir: From Harun Idris to Khalid Ibrahim, we have seen them all and they only differ in shades of grey.

The one thing they all have in common is their fabulous personal wealth which was not always unconnected to their deal-making skills, which was never for the benefit of the rakyat.

So they'll all come and go, richer (in every sense) for the experience while the hoi polloi watch hopefully from the sidelines.

Desperate for Change: My vote still goes for PKR. I am looking at the big picture of a change in government. Khalid has done a good job but now there is an issue in relation to trust. The perception is that he may have sold out to Umno.

PKR, look for a replacement who can generate good projects for Selangor, job opportunities for the rakyat, and keep costs down for everyone.

Keep the bickering and finger-pointing down. This is what excites Umno and gives them ammunition to shoot at PKR and confuse the rakyat.

Pputeh: Khalid dug his own grave by not working as a team player. He has ignored the people’s voice and is now cuddling Najib, asking 'may I come in'. He is indeed not indispensable.

Hibiscus: While waiting for the next person to take his place, Khalid, as a gentleman, should not put his signature on any agreement that is binding on the Selangor government. He must give the next MB a free hand to review the agreements being formulated.

Imanust Nais Yalam: What makes you say Khalid is honest? I bought snake oil during the Pakatan GE13 campaigns. It does not work and I am returning it.

If I don't get my money back now, no more Pakatan for me in the next GE.

Tulan: It is not easy to find an honest person like Khalid in Malaysia. Yes, some mistakes have been done but it can be corrected. So, think carefully PKR, before you put worms into your own backside.

Wira: If the majority of the state assembly members in the ruling coalition want a new MB, the incumbent must give way graciously and not drag the coalition through the dirt.

This is not about fighting back. This is about dignity and integrity.
