After nationwide condemnation, Siti Fairrah Ashykin Kamaruddin, the accidental poster girl for road rage, is now a subject of overflowing goodwill.

Selangor Perkasa today announced that it is setting up a fund to help the woman better known as Kiki to pay her fine, while DAP offers legal aid.

"DAP is prepared to provide free legal service to Kiki if she wants to appeal against the RM5,000 fine.

"Kiki's RM5,000 fine (is) on (the) high side as she has repented, Sim has forgiven her and punished enough as subject of universal scorn by social media," DAP supremo Lit Kit Siang said in a series of tweets.

He was referring to Sim Hiak Hong, 68, the victim of Kiki's road rage.

"Whether Kiki is Malay, Chinese, Indian, Kadazan or Iban - constitutional guarantee of equality before the law: Article 8 (1)," he added.

This comes after Selangor Perkasa in a Facebook posting is calling for public donations to help Kiki, or Siti Fairrah Ashyikin Kamaruddin, the woman who gained national notoriety for road bullying an elderly citizen in Kuantan last week.

Kiki was fined RM5,000 and ordered to do 240 hours of community service by the Kuantan sessions court on July 22 for the road bullying incident.

"Due to our sympathy with her, we, the leaders of Perkasa Selangor, will make as much collections as possible," the posting today reads.

Kiki gained national infamy when a video of her abusing the elderly Chinese man, recorded by a passerby, went viral on the Internet and created the hashtag #CDM25, the plate number of her Peugeot car.

Kiki had shouted at the man and repeatedly hit the bonnet of his car with a steering lock after the latter knocked into her car in a minor road accident in Kuantan last week.

She was recently interviewed by a slew of mainstream radio stations following a public apology over her conduct.

When contacted, Selangor Perkasa chief Abu Bakar Yahya told Malaysiakini that it has collected more than RM500 since launching the fund at 3am today.

 
"We decided to help her because she has cooperated well with the authorities over the matter and we want to reduce her burden," Abu Bakar said.
