YOURSAY ‘Nazri has told MCA they represent no one except themselves. What greater insult?’
Nazri roasts MCA for siding with foreign cooks
Anonymous_1396929433
: Tourism Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz made a brilliant retort to MCA. Facts are facts and your reminder is timely.
MCA has not only lost their directions, they are completely clueless of what is happening in Malaysia. After GE-13 they might as well jump into a lake.
Anak Perak: Very well said, Nazri. I agree with you that MCA is opposing just because it is Lim Guan Eng.
I am sure if the statement is made by an Umno MP, MCA would support it wholeheartedly. These so-called foreign hawker "cooks", are not actually cooks, just being placed there by greedy stall owners.
I believe Chef Wan's concern is more for those qualified cooks who work in hotels and restaurants, who are not impacted.
Cry, my beloved country : “The party does not represent the rakyat... they don't have any seats in Penang...they are speaking on behalf of who?” Undeniable observations. The truth always hurts when you are irrelevant and in a state of denial.
Louis : This is the most blunt salvo ever fired on MCA. MCA does not even have a seat and Penang and so who is MCA speaking for? Still not ashamed? I am a Chinese and my face is blushing upon reading the remark.
Fair Play : Nazri, in not so many words, has told MCA and specifically its chief Liow Tiong Lai that they represent no one except themselves. What greater insult than that?
Hearty Malaysian : Salute to you Minister Nazri for supporting what is right for the nation than play politics; rising above petty politicians who thrive on racial slurs and discrimination.
We need more courageous politicians who would not hesitate to right what is wrong for the nation. I would vote for you even I do not like Umno generally due to bad leadership at the top and full of bulls*** among many at the next lower levels .
SelangorKu: When Umno Minister supports DAP Lim Guan Eng, everyone is happy. When BN supports Selangor MB Abdul Khalid Ibrahim hell breaks loose and poor MB got walloped left right and center.
Versey : YB Nazri, thumbs up for you. It is right and proper of you to put the interests of the nation before any party or any individual's personal interests.
This MCA Youth secretary-general Leong Kim Soon is off his nut to oppose and criticise just for the sake of doing so.
It proves that the Penangites are smart to boot them out of the state, a party that is not even qualified to be a good opposition as it doesn't care for the goods of the state and the people there.
Anonymous Cat: Looks like MCA only looks after the big towkay who employ millions of migrant workers. It does not matter whether our street food is good or not, as long there is money made.
Local unemployed also not their problem. Making money is their concern.
Anak Watan: Five years ago I was taken to a bistro in a premier KL club and ordered char kuay teow. What came out was nowhere near it: greasy, unsolicited vegetables, cockles, unpeeled prawns and tasted far from that which I find in Penang.
When the club member I was with complained and inquired, he was told that the cooks were from Bangladesh! What a reflection of Bangladeshi kuay teow.
Even the Petaling Jaya food courts now have Myanmar, Thai and Nepal cooks who just dish out their version and don't give a damn if suggestions or complaints are made. We should boycott these places.
Proarte : The main issue with regard to street food is cost. Owners want to increase their profit margins but at the same time are aware of the need to keep costs low.
With the rising costs of ingredients, rent and higher cost of local worker's wages, it is a no brainer that cheap foreign labour plays an important role in maintaining the status quo.
The owners cum cooks are usually aged and it is unlikely their children will want to continue the family business and be involved back-breaking hard work.
The children are very probably educated, holding comfy jobs in more salubrious environments.
If Penang people are willing to pay more for their street food then they can have their Penang born cooks and the supposedly authentic Penang taste.
The dilemma however is that Penang folk are notoriously tight-fisted and would prefer to have cheap food prepared by foreigners than having to fork out a few more ringgit to have local born cooks who naturally command much higher wages.
Kickstart : Cheap foreign labour and stiff competition is always a factor in the food business. Maybe instead of a blanket ban, the restriction on foreign cooks at hawker stalls can be implemented in certain tourist areas, not only in Penang but also well-known areas like Jonker Street, Malacca, Petaling Street, Kuala Lumpur and the like.
Whatsup: Well, for once I agree with Nazri. Many places where we go for our meals these days have food prepared and served by foreigners. Some even own the food stalls. Surprisingly many of these foreign stall owners have bought certain approvals to allow them to stay and operate stalls.
Perhaps the legal aspects in this has to be looked into.
Jbsuara: Citizens of Malaysia are very concerned about the presence of four millions or more foreigners in the country, which poses security and social problems for the citizens. This is one of the many major national issues affecting the country that Umno/MCA has failed to raise and tackle.
Again, MCA is barking up the wrong tree. Shame on Leong and MCA.
