Umno Youth has taken aim at Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail over the lack of action against individuals who make sensitive remarks on race and religion.

In a front page report today, Sinar Harian under the heading "AG, do not sleep" highlighted complaints by various Umno Youth leaders over what they say is selective prosecution.

The report quoted Umno Youth executive council member Sheikh Abdul Rahman as saying that Gani's apparent silence over such cases has raised question marks, particularly among the Malay Muslim community.

Meanwhile, Federal Territories Umno Youth chief Razlan Muhammad Rafii is quoted by the newspaper as demanding that Abdul Gani explains why such cases in the past have not seen action.

Swift action against Ustaz Shahul, but...

"Ustaz Shahul (Hamid), who is said to have made racial comments and insulted Hindus was swiftly called up by police for investigation.

"But interestingly, it has been seven days yet there is no action against Kelvin Yip, even though there were a number of police reports and his remarks have gone viral on social media," Razlan is quoted as saying.

Religious preacher Shahul Hamid in a video clip posted in the social media insulted Hindu deities and urged Muslims not to buy curry powder from Hindu manufacturers.

Yip, in a profanity-laden comment on his Facebook page, which he subsequently deleted, complained about the volume of the Muslim prayer over loudspeakers in the morning.

Razlan had previously questioned why the authorities were swift to act against Malays but  slow when dealing with other races.

The report also quoted Umno Youth vice-chief Khairul Azwan Harun ( left ) as saying that the authorities should be more stern in dealing with such cases.

"Use whatever laws that are available to us. Do not simply let them off after an apology," Khairul said.

Sinar Harian also published a list of cases that were pending, including rapper Namewee's modification of the national anthem with racial undertones, DAP's Seri Delima RSN Rayer's labelling of Umno as "celaka" (damned) and Umno's Razlan's threat to burn down the DAP headquarters.
