'Act against lawbreakers, regardless of race'

YOURSAY 'It is sad to see M'sians looking at everything from a racial perspective.'

Umno Youth: Why only Malays like Kiki charged?

Aries46: The call for ‘azan’ has gone up by a few decibels recently in my area. It can now be heard at a larger radius than its previous reach. Just imagine how deafening it would be to those in the vicinity.

No doubt people's sleep is disturbed but it is tolerated in the good spirit of Malaysian interracial and religious harmony. Increasing the volume is not an offence but it reflects a sense of indifference to the feelings of the old and sickly and children asleep at that hour.

But to equate that to Kiki's (Siti Fairrah Ashyikin Kamaruddin) road rage and causing damage to property - a clear breach under the Penal Code - amounts to comparing oranges with apples.

By all means act against those who break the law regardless of their racial origin. But to compare an action of rage and violence by Kiki to that of Kelvin Yip's indiscreet Facebook postings smacks of racist vengeance.

Caesar: There is a provision in the law to charge Kiki, and she was charged. There is a provision in the law to investigate Islamic preacher Shahul Hamid, so investigate.

If there are provisions in the law to charge Kelvin Yip, then investigate and charge. Why Umno is so stupid to want to make this an issue?

Ferdtan: Umno Youth Federal Territories chief Mohd Razlan Muhammad Rafii, though we may disagree with you on the above examples on the selective prosecution that our police and Attorney-General’s Chambers are practising, we agree with you on one aspect - our police and AG’s Chambers are guilty as charged for selective prosecution against the opposition leaders to curry favour with the BN government.

So Mohd Razlan, can you start an Umno campaign for the sacking of police chief Khalid Abu Bakar and AG Abdul Gani Patail? We shall support you as they are really guilty of selective prosecution.

Damntlwbn: I live in SS2, 13th floor apartment, surrounded by three to five mosques, with one extremely loud. One time I forgot to warn my guest about the morning prayer from the mosque, she got up terrified, thinking it was a war siren.

But on a serious note, to the extremist Muslim brothers and sisters, as Malaysians in general, we just go along with it. So give us a break.

Growing Old Lonely: In Kiki's case, it was the general public of all races who were outraged by her action. In the beginning, there was nothing racial in Kiki's case.

However, the NGOs and our Oxford graduate (Khairy Jamaluddin) stirred it up later for political gain.

In Kelvin Yip's case, it is the political groups that are crying for blood. It is clear that our Malaysian politicians and their crony NGOs are stirring up racial unrest.

This is a really dangerous thing to do. And as usual, our dignified, silent premier is acting his usual self.

Gaji Buta: I don't agree with how Kelvin Yip did it, but technically, he was complaining about the volume and not the religion, unlike others we know.

Crime cannot be defined based on the sensitivity of other people. So the logical course of action would be to check if the complaint is valid.

Dont Just Talk: It is really sad to see Malaysians looking at everything from a racial perspective.

Regardless of whether Kiki is a Malay or Chinese or Indian, the fact is she acted/behaved like a road bully, caught on YouTube, threatening Uncle Sim with a steering-lock and banging his car with it.

Retnam: The 'curry powder' ustaz is investigated because he is from PAS. If he is from Umno, he would be declared a hero.

Kiki was charged because the IGP (inspector-general of police) was itching to prove to everyone that the police are not racist. There are so many other cases where certain individuals insulted others and got away scot-free. Zulkifli Nordin is a classic example.

What4: There is possibility that ‘Kelvin Tan’ was created by some evil groups to create an issue. A person can just create an account by using a Chinese name and then post something to show that Islam is under threat.

Like the case where someone threw a pig’s head into the mosque compound when most people believed it was not the work of the non-Muslims.

Tholu: As long as every issue is going to be seen through racial and religious lens, this nation is never going to see national unity and the 1Malaysia slogan can be dumped into a giant jar and let it rot.

Anonymous #40538199: If there is any selective prosecution in the country, Umno should be held responsible because Umno members hold the ministerial posts responsible for the investigating and prosecuting units in the government.

Tan Kim Keong: It looks like some of these Umno Youth leaders are incapable of understanding the issues being dealt with regarding the cases raised.

PKR’s Afif Bahardin is right. One is a case of violence and the other two, intolerance.

Just imagine that all these cases mentioned were of just one race, the police must still investigate all reports lodged, regardless.
