Police today took a statement from a woman alleged to be a participant at the nudist sports event in Teluk Kampi, Penang National Park on May 31.

Southwest District OCPD Supt Lai Fah Hin said the woman, a private music teacher, came in today to give her statement.

Asked if she was under arrest, Lai said: "No, she only came in to give her statement.

"She is here to help us in our investigations, and she will leave later today," he told Malaysiakini when contacted.

Lai also said police are appealing to those involved in the event, and to those with information on the matter to assist the force in their investigation.

"Hopefully more will come in later to help us speed up this probe," Lai added.

About 18 people were involved in the nude sports event that took place at the national park in Teluk Bahang on May 31.

The event grabbed national attention when a video showing the participants in various activities went viral on the Internet.

The Penang government has insisted it never approves such events, pushing the blame on to the federal government as the park is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

Police are investigating the case under Section 294 (a) and Section 509 of the Penal Code.

Among the 11 reports lodged on the incident is one by Penang Perkasa Youth chief Rizuad Azudin at the Northeast District police headquarters on Aug 5.

Several suspects identified

A five-minute video clip titled 'Malaysia Nude Sports Games 2014', which was posted online, shows participants engaging in various activities, such as nude body painting, Gangnam style horse dance, crab walking and at a campfire, all in the nude.

Police have identified several suspects involved in organising the event, and are making effort to contact the individuals to help in their investigation, Lai said.

They have also recorded statements from 16 witnesses. Seven of the suspects are Malaysians, four are Singaporeans, two Myanmarese, one Filipino and one Indian national.

Lai called on those involved in the event to contact investigating officer ASP Mohd Sani Mat Ali at 012-5424455 as soon as possible.
