Fate of Pakatan now in PAS’ hands

YOURSAY ‘If PAS can't play ball with their partners, it's their loss.’

PAS' powerful syura council backs MB

Kim Quek: The PAS Syura Council statement is ambiguous. First, it said Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim should be removed if he is “found guilty of violating the trust (of the people)”.

Next moment it said it is prepared to review Khalid’s position if he is “found guilty by an authoritative body like the MACC or the court”.

It is completely illogical to say that Khalid can only be removed if he is convicted by the court, for that would have meant the court supplanting the party as the decision maker with regards to Khalid’s political fate.

It is the practice all over the world that a party leader’s position in the government is decided by the party, never by the court. (By the way, only the court can find a person guilty, not the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission).

The council can’t possibly mean to abdicate the party’s power to discipline its leaders to the court, unless it wants to make PAS the laughing stock of the world.

And so by the criterion set by PAS Syura Council, Khalid should be removed as MB of Selangor, since he has been found by his own party PKR to be unworthy of the trust placed on him.

RZC: If PAS cannot accept a woman candidate, what’s here to say other than we are going backwards.

If PAS can't play ball with their partners, it's their loss. If PAS can't accept that the country is made up of non-Muslims and other religions, then they should stay at home and go study Islamic principles again.

If PAS can't honour their word, they deserve to be kicked out by the people.

Ferdtan: Finally we can call a spade a spade; PAS ulamas are no good to Pakatan. They cannot be on Pakatan side.

In the past, we had tolerated them so as not to break the harmony among the Pakatan parties in favour of the higher agenda of bringing the two-party system to fruition.

For too long, these ulamas and the youth wing leaders linked to them had been sniping with unfriendly-Pakatan messages which did more harm to their allies.

We said it before and we are saying it now. Anwar Ibrahim and PKR must not lose this battle; come what may even if PAS were to leave Pakatan. Never compromise. Never.

Otherwise PKR will be finished as this is seen as a weakness. Principles cannot be compromised.

If PAS want their way, the door is always open for them to leave. It is PAS loss and not Pakatan’s.

PAS is now caught between the devil and the deep blue sea. Join the Umno-friendly bloc and they will be dead as Umno would shallow them up in no time.

Remain independent? With both Pakatan and BN contesting against them they may even lose Kelantan. That is the reason why we say; don’t let these religious men involve politics. They know nuts.

LAWofKARMA: I believe PAS and Umno, together with Khalid, have mooted a Plan C to form a new state government headed by Khalid as an independant state assemblyperson.

And Khalid shall claim this is in line with the wishes of the rakyat. Well, it could be a blessing in disguise, though Pakatan without PAS will have to start the ‘reformasi’ movement all over again.

Swipenter: I am repeating here again that PAS wants the post of Selangor MB. It is quite obvious that a little taste of power has gotten into their heads. They are even willing to sleep with the devil to get it.

They can deny that allegation but we are not stupid not to see their ulterior motive. Their intention in Pakatan is now questionable beyond doubt. They can only be trusted at our own peril.

A few good apples in PAS does not mean that they are trustworthy of our votes. Come next election, confine them back to the backwaters of Kelantan.

Axolotl: It’s very sad to see that at the end of the day, race and religion mean more to them than truth, justice, compassion and wisdom.

There are many in PAS who are intelligent, charismatic, and attuned to current realities, unlike these diehard patriarchs whose minds are stuck in the 15th century.

Onyourtoes: We even removed and changed the prime minister of Malaysia, did we not?  There was no tussle and hassle too.

It was Umno who decided the new PM. I was not even sure BN was consulted, much less endorsed it.

No one argued over the procedures and the constitutional provisions governing the removal and replacement of PM. And no one said the former PM was found violating trust.

Starwars: In Perak, all parties wholeheartedly supported PAS in the spirit of Pakatan and appointed an MB from PAS although PAS held the lowest number of seats.

So why is PAS being ungrateful in the Selangor case?
