Ban Facebook? Ban cars, too, for causing accidents

YOURSAY 'Now can you see the absurdity of your suggestion?'

Don’t you dare take our Facebook, roars parties

Roar For Truth : Banning Facebook because some abuse it is like asking for the cabinet to be disbanded because some of the cabinet ministers are "tak boleh pakai" (useless) quality.

Voice : If based on Communications and Multimedia Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek’s logic, then the police forces have to be closed as well.

Justice Pao : Based on this Ahmad Shabery's argument, there are many abuses by BN government like Port Klang Free Zone, National Feedlot Centre, etc...then we should also look at banning BN from governing the country!

Lamborghini: The answer to abuse is never non-use but proper use! Why don’t you suggest we all go back to riding bicycles and ban cars on roads just because there are so many accidents.

Why not stop planes from flying just because there are air crashes. Now can you see the absurdity of your suggestion?

Apache : Why so uptight? Ahmad Shabery dares not do anything about Facebook or other social media.

He wants to play poker and we shall see who calls the bluff. First, he would have to cancel his bosses' Twitter accounts and other social media communication channels.

Bash : To ban FB would be too drastic and akin to cutting the nose to spite the face. On the balance of things, Facebook brings more benefits to the netizens than bad. Sure, there will be abuse but isn't that the case with all things and sundry?

Siang Malam : Yes, ban Facebook . After all Malaysia is already the best democracy in the world and we are leading the world in being moderate country having our Global Movement of Moderates. Facebook is just wasting of time and bad influence to the people who have nothing to do.

Junta : Turkey banned it. Ban it for at least a period of time. MCA and DAP can't live without their Starbucks, McDonald and Facebook . It is clear where their loyalty lies.

Jaguh : As it is now, in Malaysia, there is already no free speech. One wrong word and it’s sedition. Now they monitor our Facebook comments with the intent to ban it.

What’s wrong with this government? If they are so afraid of free expressions, don't govern then.

Bystander : Ban Facebook , Malaysia would be relegated to the level of a pariah state! Malaysians who will be up in arms to protest may even have to bring down the government. Please consider very carefully you silly minister.

Suaram: Najib must sack IGP for Kugan’s death

CQ MUAR : Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar, we demand that you tender your resignation with immediately effect, as it's proven beyond reasonable doubt you'd blatantly and openly committed a most despicable crime. You knowingly and openly lied as a top cop.

It is beyond doubt that this grave and immoral ethic must not be excused and compromised as the country's foremost law-enforcer; in view of the integrity and reputation of Malaysia being at stake in the eyes of the world.

You had failed miserably and do not deserve sympathy for taking lives of the innocent in your custody with the senseless cover-up. Therefore, the least and most decent expectation from you and those responsible is to do the needful - resign!

Loveforpeace: The IGP is not a pathologist. He could only say the death is due to what. In this case he told that it is due to the lungs' failure. It doesn't mean that he misled the public.

The water in the lungs could be caused by internal or external injuries. It is not fair to blame him 100 percent. And he is not a politician to bow out easily. He rightfully deserves to prove that he is not the cause of Kugan's death.

Anonymous_3faa: Malaysia is the only country in the world where the top cop can lie to cover up murders, and who blatantly disobeys court orders.

What will the Ukrainians think about this recalcitrant now in their midst? He should not only be dismissed dishonorably, but be subjected to due process before the law for the many crimes he has abetted during his tenure as IGP.

What an absolute embarrassment for Malaysia, and disgrace for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Viviyan Jack : What? When citizens are beaten in a car robbery or snatch theft, everybody supports their actions (of beating up the perpetrator) as an act justice act. Where is human rights? But when the authorities allegedly beat a wrongdoer, human rights arises here and there.

Don't we see that some parties are just trying to condemn the authorities no matter what they do? Our country has laws and those who are found guilty have already paid their dues. We need prove to allegation against others, not just by mere accusations.

The IGP can't simply step down from his position. What they need to do is to improve the lock-ups. If he simply steps down, it can only show that he is not fit to be an IGP.

What, do you guys think that by changing the IGP we can solve any problem? Furthermore, this case is not even his fault.

Waktamnoko : Yes, in our quest for the IGP's blood we forget the criminals. We only remember and think of the police when we or our next of kin are their victims. Then there will have a hue and cry from these same people about the police not doing their job.

Sarah Tan: This is ridiculous! Why would anybody want to sack the IGP? He's a public servant for crying out loud. Plus, the deceased was a criminal!

What are we thinking? Are we trying to protect the future of criminals? Grow up, people. I'm losing faith in humanity day by day.

Fair Play : Sarah Tan, is not a criminal also a human being? Are not all human beings including criminals accorded basic human rights such as protection when in custody?

Do you understanding the meaning of dereliction of duty by the police, in this case the IGP as affirmed by the Court of Appeal? You, too, need to grow up.

Yahoo : Sarah Tan, how old are you? Custodial death is a very serious matter.

Kugan was only a suspect, he was not found guilty by any court yet, and therefore, he should have been accorded the full rights and protection by the police while in jail.

As for Viviyan Jack's comment, the IGP is responsible for all matters of the police force. It does not matter if he is not at fault or not involved, all his subordinates are under his control and they report to him. Changing the IGP can have a great impact on the police force, especially an honest and uncorrupted IGP.

Siang Malam : Sarah Tan, everyone is innocent until proven guilty in court. Beating someone while they are in a lockup is inhumane. It is wrong.

Anyway, wasn’t Khalid also the one who made allegations that there was a machete found in the Proton driven by the late 15-year old Amirulrasyid (who was shot dead by police in a car chase) in Shah Alam but in actual fact there was none?

Samurai: Fact is the police have been trying to paint Kugan as a criminal even before a court, the rightful party to make that decision, has had a chance to examine the facts.

And since he is dead, we are supposed to just take the police's word for it? You call that justice?
