‘Irresponsible’ DPM puts foot in mouth again
YOURSAY ‘As DPM, should you not watch your words before talking?’
DPM: Claim of slow action on non-Malays 'has basis'
David Dass: DPM Muhyiddin Yassin's statement does two things. It first gives credence to the accusations made by Umno Youth that the police have not been pursuing non-Malay breaches of the law as diligently as they have pursued Malays.
Secondly, assuming the complaint has validity (and there is no evidence that it has validity), it somehow makes non-Malays responsible for the situation.
The police have already responded . They say that the law is enforced evenhandedly without regard for race. The DPM's statement is not helpful. He is deputy prime minister. He must separate his position as DPM from his position in Umno.
Political parties cannot pressure the police or the AG (attorney-general) to commence prosecutions against particular individuals.
Hate statements should be discouraged wherever they come from. Defamatory statements are actionable. Violence or threats of violence by members of a political party should be firmly discouraged.
Vijay47: Many people believe that our deputy prime minister is mentally deficient, but despite or maybe because of his Umno links, he is craftier than meets the eye.
His latest statement being clear evidence of this. First, he continues the new Umno strategy of creating rifts between the races and as usual, turns everything into a racial issue.
Anybody with the least bit of intelligence would acknowledge that Malaysia does indeed practise selective prosecution, except that it is in not in the manner the DPM alleges.
Malays and Malay organisations seem permitted to say anything they want without any anxiety of being charged in court. Ibrahim Ali, Zulkifli Noordin, and Isma can add to this.
Secondly, in making this statement, Muhyiddin is trying to suggest that the IGP (inspector-general of police) and that AG are outside the grip of Umno and have the liberty and independence to act as the law demands. Yes, and pigs have wings.
LAWofKARMA: Muhyiddin, please provide your basis for the slow action on non-Malays by PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police).
Otherwise you are no better than the beggar in the street who knows only how to ask for money/food and never having to think of working hard to earn a living. Or even worse than him as his action only affect him and some kind-hearted man.
But yours I feel will create distrust, racial rift and discord among the races. As DPM, should you not watch your words before talking?
Swipenter: The DPM has been quiet for some time and now he sees an opportunity to open his mouth. Everybody knows that racism has been institutionalised and the non-Malays are not the ones reaping benefits from the racism.
Now they are again using institutionalised racism to further justify that life is better for the non-Malays. What warped logic is that - it’s like saying that apartheid was beneficial to the blacks/coloured in South Africa.
Malaysian 53: Muhyiddin, the ‘Malays First DPM’, how about the all the statements made by Perkasa and Isma, not forgetting your own, which were all seditious to say the least?
Your memories are short and selective, Mr Racist DPM. The people who make all these Malay agenda statements have plenty to hide in the closet, especially those who are afraid of investigations into their ill-gotten gains.
Remember your days as MB of Johor when then PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad had to drag you to Kuala Lumpur to prevent you from "selling" Johor to the foreigners?
Wira: Muhyiddin forgets to mention that perception is in the eyes of the beholder. The non-Malays think that Perkasa and Isma are seditious. Umno doesn't think so.
Now Umno perceive that non-Muslims are not prosecuted for their insensitive rants among friends on the social media. However, these Umno bigots are blind to the specks of dusts in their own eyes.
Anonymous #039163649: Action against Alvivi was super swift. He was at first even denied bail and then released under RM30,000 bail. As for Facebooker Kelvin Yip, so far he looks like he doesn't exist. How to take action against a non-existent person?
Very often we have FB pages which insult the Prophet, religion and royalty and nobody is found despite the high technology available to Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the police.
This leads many people to believe that such seditious postings are planted by elements who want to see discord among the races and turmoil in the country so that the politicians can divide and rule.
Post-2008, three pig’s heads were found in a places of worship where this is considered a very serious taboo. Nobody was charged. Again many people believed that someone was desperately trying to split the races and cause pandemonium in the country.
Now who stands to benefit if races are divided and there is turmoil in the nation?
Disappointed Malaysian: I am sure most of us are absolutely sick to the core of people who keeps commenting on everything from a racial and religious perspective.
I know Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin is not stupid enough to believe there is any truth in what he has said on this issue of delayed action against non-Malays, and I am even willing to believe that our DPM is not that stupid either to believe what he is saying.
Which just goes to show how desperate they are trying to gain political mileage. Unfortunately, there are still people who are naive enough to believe this rubbish.
Mosquitobrain: How I wish we have more integrity, sincere, caring, rational, good intellect, results orientated, visionary leaders to prevent the country from further slides and damages.
We are still chasing our dreams after more than half a century. Instead of getting nearer, we are drifting further and further away from Vision 2020. Let's pray hard for divine help.
Not Convinced: I have to do a double take when I read the Malaysiakini headline.
I first thought Muhyiddin said there was ‘NO basis’ to allegations of slow action on non-Malays. That’s what you would expect a responsible leader to say to douse the flames of racial fires.
Then again, I forgot I was living in Malaysia.
