Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said the country's economic management is at the best level considering that the economic growth in the second quarter far exceeded expectations.
Najib said the country's economy grew 6.2 per cent in the first quarter of this year and 6.4 per cent in the second quarter.
"Our country's economy has expanded beyond expectations," he said during his speech at the Malay Chamber of Commerce Malaysia (MCCM)'s Hari Raya open house and launch of the Malay entrepreneurs development programme in Kuala Lumpur today.
Najib said the improving economic growth was driven by the increase in exports which grew to 14.2 per cent in the second quarter compared with 10.8 per cent in the first quarter.
"This showed that in terms of economic management, we are on the right track," he said.
He said the economic growth was important and must be managed well so that the government would be able to distribute the country's wealth.
"It must be based on growth. If there's no growth, there will not be an equitable distribution of wealth," said Najib.
In efforts to continue to develop the economy guided by these principles, he said the Bumiputera economic agenda was a national agenda and its mechanism was set by the Bumiputera Economic Council (MEB).
Among the programmes carried out to develop the Bumiputera economy are vendor development, Bumiputera Start Up Entrepreneur Scheme (Superb), distribution of certain contracts such as the Mass Rapid Transit and others.
"This is not a rhetoric statement but had been implemented efficiently through the MEB to ensure effective implementation," he said.
