Dr Mahathir Mohamad should not have resigned as prime minister since his vision has not been achieved, said PAS vice-president Tuan Man Tuan Ibrahim.

“If Mahathir appointed anyone after quitting, his 2020 vision (to achieve a developed nation status) would not be achieved,” he added in a Harakahdaily report.

Tuan Ibrahim said Mahathir should not just stop at reprimanding Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and must push for his resignation.

On the other hand, he said if Najib had pride, he would quit following the former premier’s scathing criticism.

He said that Mahathir (left) should call for Najib’s resignation if he truly considered the latter’s performance to be worse than his predecessor Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

The PAS leader added that merely criticising or reprimanding him would not have an effect since Mahathir was no longer part of the government.

'Dr M's vitriol proves BN should go'

Tuan Ibrahim also argued that Mahathir’s criticism proved that Umno and BN are deteriorating and should be replaced with Pakatan Rakyat at the federal level.

“Under the rule of Umno-BN, the people are increasingly burdened with the rise in living cost and national debt due to the leaders’ poor management of the economy,” he said.

At the same time, Tuan Ibrahim said that the government had failed to curb the crime rate.

“Crime does not only involve the law, but the enforcement aspect must also be improved. It must be looked at in total,” he added.

The PAS vice-president said these weaknesses, which have left the rakyat disappointed, have given a “strong basis” for Mahathir to criticise Najib.

On Monday, the former premier penned a blog post criticising Najib’s leadership and expressed regret in backing the latter.
