It's still Wan Azizah despite PAS' reluctance

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has insisted that party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will be Pakatan Rakyat's candidate for Selangor menteri besar amid reservations from PAS.
"To date, there is no change to the (Pakatan) decision made last week, namely we acknowledge that PAS has nominated two names and the decision was to have Wan Azizah as Pakatan's (sole) candidate.
The remark comes amid PAS’ reluctance to let 13 of its state assemblypersons to ink their support for Wan Azizah in a statutory declaration despite having verbally endorsed her, along with PKR deputy president Azmin Ali, last Sunday.
Earlier today, Malaysiakini reported that Pakatan was unable to get written support for Wan Azizah from the 13 PAS state assemblypersons after the coalition's leadership council meeting yesterday.
However, Anwar stressed that the issue of Wan Azizah's support was not discussed at that meeting and instead the discussion revolved around the legal aspects ahead of an expected audience with the Selangor sultan as early as next week.
"The necessity of signatures (of support) and the like did not arise," he told journalists at the 10th National PKR Congress in Shah Alam this evening.
"The meeting yesterday was to discuss the views of the legal committee from the three parties, represented by Asmuni Awi from PAS, Gobind Deo Singh from DAP and R Sivasara from PKR.
"It discussed the next step that needs to be taken and its legal implications when we present our candidate to the sultan," Anwar added.
PAS to meet on Monday
Earlier today, newly-minted PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli said PAS wanted to refer the contents of the document of support to the party's leadership for vetting before allowing its state assemblypersons in Selangor to sign it.
The Islamic party has 15 assemblypersons in Selangor but two of its assemblypersons - Saari Sungib (Hulu Kelang) and Hasnul Baharuddin (Morib) - have already signed the SDs after they unilaterally backed Wan Azizah before PAS made its decision last Sunday.
PAS is expected to convene another meeting on Monday to address the written support for Wan Azizah.
