DAP assemblyperson RSN Rayer, who incensed Umno with his "celaka" (damn), remark, is to be charged with sedition tomorrow.

According to DAP legal bureau head Gobind Singh Deo, the Seri Delima representative would be charged in a sessions court in Penang tomorrow.

"We believe it will be over the same matter for which he was to be charged earlier," Gobind said in reference to the police probe into the "celaka" remark.

"Rayer received a call from the police this morning, asking him to be present in court tomorrow morning," he added.

Rayer will be the fifth Pakatan Rakyat elected representative to be charged under the Sedition Act this month.

This morning, PAS MP Khalid Samad was charged with sedition in a sessions court in Kuala Lumpur.

PKR's Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli, meanwhile, has been called in for investigations of alleged sedition tomorrow.

When contacted, Rayer said he was informed about the matter this morning, in a telephone call from one Inspector Simon from the Northeast District police headquarters on Jalan Patani.

“The inspector told me to appear in court tomorrow and that they will be charging me over statements uttered in and outside the state legislative assembly. That is all he said,” Rayer told Malaysiakini .

“I do not know exactly over what statements I uttered. So we will just be present in court and we will face the charges and take it from there,” Rayer added.

On June 17, Rayer was formally arrested and turned himself in at the  Northeast District police headquarters on Jalan Pattani, to give his statement, after which he posted bail.

His court case the next day was postponed by the attorney-general, with no reason cited.

He was then supposed to be charged under Section 4.1(b) for uttering seditious words, over remarks related to the word “celaka” which he made outside the state assembly, and during the Bukit Gelugor by-election in May.

Rayer had defended himself, saying the word “celaka” was not meant for the Malays or Islam, but was directed at only three Umno leaders who attended a rally in support of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, where banners blaming DAP for the May 13 racial riots were displayed.
