Future of PAS rests with the Erdogans

YOURSAY 'It only has future if led by moderates accepted by multi-racial population.'

Umno is fatal for PAS members, says Mujahid

Swipenter: What we are witnessing in Selangor is of enormous importance and has huge and widespread implications for politics in Bolehland.

On one side, we are seeing Umno Baru reviving and reintroducing ‘royal’ politics into the politics of the country with the help of fundamentalist PAS members, both unofficially merging to form a ‘Malay/Muslim’ unity government.

In that case, other BN component parties (MCA, MIC, Gerakan, PPP, etc) are likely to be treated like irritating flies to be swatted away by this ‘unity’ government.

On the other hand, we will see a stronger bond among DAP, PKR and progressive and moderate Muslim politicians from PAS to challenge the trinity of this ‘unity’ government.

Then what is the role of the constitutional monarchy? My answer would be "what about it?"

We may see a political tsunami happening in East Malaysia challenging this ‘unity’ government. This is critical to a more united Bolehland in the long run, that is not obsessed with the '3Rs'.

Kim Quek: First choice for reformers of PAS should be to reduce the influence of the conservative faction, for which the most effective way would be to hem PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang in, while moving the central committee to the centre of power.

The ideal is of course to replace Hadi altogether as the top leader, if it can be achieved now. Meanwhile, PasMa (Persatuan Ummah Sejahtera Malaysia) is an excellent vehicle to mobilise the forces of reform.

It should be made clear to all PAS members that the party will only have a future if:

a) it is led by moderate leaders acceptable to our multi-racial population

b) it stays as an equal partner in Pakatan

Malaysian 53: I hope this is light at the end of the tunnel. It's fortunate that there are many PAS members who think like party deputy president Mohamad ‘Mat’ Sabu and PAS central committee member Mujahid Yusof Rawa.

The Observer: PAS is experiencing growth pains just like Pakatan. It should be given a chance to clean up its act and rid itself of anti-democratic forces. If it can truly do so, then Pakatan will become strong enough to challenge BN in a two-party system.

Don't be hasty to dump them, at least not yet. As for the MB's post, any nominee must still face and survive a vote of confidence in the assembly when it convenes.

Maplesyrup: Like a battered wife who still wants to return to her abusive husband, maybe the likes of Hadi and other like-minded PAS members also long for a liaison with Umno in the same manner?

Labis Guy: When PAS lost two states, namely Terengganu and Kedah, who was leading PAS at that time?

Mushiro: Only the progressive groups in PAS understand that Umno is fatal for them and that Pakatan is the long-term way to go.

But the ulama group is in a hurry for power and is blindly following Hadi, who is leading them on a suicide mission that will ultimately destroy PAS and Pakatan.

The battle to remove Umno is half-fought but PAS is suddenly abandoning the battle and teaming up with the enemy.

Raja Chulan: Why create PasMa? Why not kick out Hadi and the rest of the pseudo-Umno guys from PAS instead? PAS does not belong to Hadi alone.

Kawak: It is good to launch PasMa first liaison office in Temerloh.

PasMa, please remind the Temerloh MP, Nasrudin Tantawi, that he was able to scrap through to win over the moderate Umno incumbent, Saifudin Abdullah, because many non-Malays who consist 35 percent of the constituency, gave him the votes.

Nasrudin appears to be pro-Umno following the footsteps of the previous deputy PAS president, Nasharudin Mat Isa. I hope come the next GE, this young ‘ulamak’ will lose his seat.

Cocomomo: The ‘Kajang Move’, while looked upon negatively by many, has now shown its positive aspects though that may not have been the original intention.

Both Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim and Hadi stand out as persons not working in the interest of Pakatan and the nation.

If PAS cannot get rid of its president and fanatics, Pakatan should get rid of PAS. Racism and religious fanaticism should be discarded in favour of a fair and just Malaysia.

Single Malt: While PAS was beginning to gain acceptance by non-Muslims, here comes Hadi to show how treacherous they are. Non-Muslims will never again trust PAS. Thanks to Hadi for showing its true face.

YF: So this is how democracy ends in our country. Already BN has made a mess, now with PAS it has become worse. This is what happens when politicians put self above the interest of the nation.

Even their soul can be sold to the devil for a price. Don't be fooled by a party that claims to be religious. It's just another BN coolie.

Hang Tuah PJ: The 'Kajang Move', though deemed as a bad move by some has some 'hikmah' (blessing).

It has brought out the devious personalities of some of the holier-than-thou MPs and also brought out the can of worms that need to be cleaned out before we face the next GE.

We, the citizens, are watching how this fiasco is being played out and what game each and every MP is playing. You are not dealing with some backwater fisherman or Felda worker.

This is Selangor where majority are educated and exposed to international/foreign elements. Don't take us for fools. We know what to do next 'summer'.

Anonymous_40f4: Najib's Plan A - block Azizah from becoming MB at all costs.

Plan B - temporarily install a MB from PAS.

Plan C - dissolve the state assembly and have snap polls, where PAS will lose many seats to Umno Baru.

Plan D - install a MB from Umno Baru. Takeover of Selangor complete. Win-win situation for the sultan.

Jafar al-Sadiq: Umno's battle plan has gone into action. It will split PAS and kill PAS before the next general election.

PAS will have Hadi to thank for that, unless the PAS members call for an EGM and sack Hadi. He has become an Umno stooge, nothing less.
