Nik Abduh can’t demand respect after betrayal

YOURSAY ‘Yes, PAS has a right to reject Wan Azizah. But...’

PAS: To mend rift, respect our right to reject Azizah

Ferdtan: PAS central committee member Nik Abduh Nik Aziz still doesn't get it when he asked others to respect PAS' right to reject PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as a candidate for MB.

Nik Abduh, is not about difference in opinion among partners, it is about treachery and betrayal by your party president. Didn't PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang earlier 'agreed' (even if it is through his six top party leaders authorised to meet with other coalition partners) to submit only one name to the palace, Wan Azizah's?

On a more serious allegation, it was pointed out that Hadi Awang told his shocked central committee members in the Aug 17 meeting he would even welcome Umno's support of his choice of PKR deputy president Azmin Ali as candidate. Isn't that technically a PAS-Umno unity government?

This clearly proves that Hadi Awang has already the idea of switching to the enemy side. The allegation against Hadi had not been denied by the president himself. I guess it would be hard to deny the 'fact' when there were more than 30  party committee members present who must have heard his shocked admission.

Don't start to play helpless victim here; by lamenting that PAS was not given adequate respect and an equal role on Pakatan Rakyat. You can babble what you want but the truth is that your party president was trying to sleep with Pakatan's political enemy - Umno.

Commentable: It is comical for Nik Abduh to call for PAS' right to reject Wan Azizah to be respected. It is equally comical for him to quickly exert that PAS wants to remain a partner in Pakatan, knowing full well that the woman they rejected is the president of PKR.

The crux is that if you don't respect your partner's president, how do you expect people from the other party to respect you in return? Why then do you still want to hang around with those whose leader is someone whom you rejected?

Wouldn't that be hypocrisy talking, Nik Abduh? To me, the real test is putting aside all the hypocrisy surrounding the whole issue. It's time to call a spade a spade.

The answer lies in the state constitution and that is the only place where one truly has to give respect to, not to PAS or any other mortal being.

Malaccan: PAS has the right to to be heard but it doesn't have the right to simply reject a candidate for a post belonging to PKR. Can PAS accept it if PKR rejects the Kelantan MB's candidacy one day?

And will PAS mind if the reason given is that the Kelantan MB is incompetent and shady? All PAS and Nik Abduh need to do is to put the shoe on the other foot to see their fault.

The Selangor situation is more sensitive due to the controversy started by Hadi's public intransigence. There is no use for Nik Abduh to mislead the public as to his president's responsibility in this matter.

Hadi created the rift perhaps to keep control of outgoing MB Khalid Ibrahim and steal the MBship from PKR through the back door. If PAS couldn't for conscience's sake endorse Wan Azizah, then let them do that judiciously earlier or prove her unworthiness in the same manner Hadi insisted PKR prove Khalid's unreliability as MB.

Apa Nama: Okay, PAS. I feel and believe PKR, DAP and PAS should be together no matter rain or sunshine. Yes, for betterment of Malaysia all of you may face some issue every now and then.

But one of your member, Nik Abduh is talking nonsense. In fact, your president started all this and now everyone has to defend him blindly. Fine, this is your right. But asking others to respect your right to create a rift is something out of the mind.

You said Azizah is not capable. I can accept that as Hadi is far more 'capable', yet he lost Kedah and Terengganu. That is what PAS' definition of capability. Fine, I accept this also.

But asking PKR and DAP to go against state constitution is something I will not, and could not, accept.

Hmmmmmmmm: Am I reading this right? After betraying their Pakatan partners, PAS is now saying that they should respect them if they want things to return to normal. I think they should be thankful that they haven't been kicked out of the coalition yet.

Ipohcrite: It's time that Pakatan cut PAS loose. You can't have PAS remain in Pakatan, just to have a Pakatan-led Selangor government that effectively operates like an Umno-led government.

It's time to rebuild a strong Pakatan, even with the risk of losing a snap election, with righteous politicians with integrity rather than wallow in the current sad state affairs with PAS, never knowing when they will stab you in the back and jump in bed with Umno.

Swipenter: DAP and PKR respect the right of PAS to choose their MBs. Why can't PAS respect the right of PKR to choose their MB for Selangor despite having an understanding amongst themselves on this issue.

Everybody now knows that PAS wanted the Selangor MB’s post for themselves even if it means sleeping with the devil; treachery, betrayal and double crossing of PKR by Hadi and their syura council.

DAP can only nominate a person for the MB’s post and that they did it constitutionally and conventionally. Nobody is naive enough to even think that DAP would secretly nominate one of their own to be MB even if he/she is a Malay and Muslim.

Maybe 20 years from now that would be possible.

Odysseus: Nik Abduh, I don't think you understand the issue here. It's no longer about agreeing on who should be the MB. It's about one who does not walk the talk. You cannot go into a meeting to agree on something and then, do or say different things behind your partners' back.

Opah: What he means is Pakatan should respect PAS' right to say one thing and do the opposite, to respect PAS' right to negotiate with Umno while stringing its Pakatan allies along.
