YOURSAY ‘Azmin, nothing you or those close to you say or do is sacrosanct.’
Azmin Ali sworn in as 15th Selangor MB
FellowMalaysian: Selangor MB Azmin Ali may not have been the voters' choice but he was chosen by the sultan; and PKR, the party where he belonged, has whole-heartedly endorsed him.
It is only fair to Azmin now that he has been accepted that he is given due recognition, respect and good wishes from all Selangorians.
With Khalid Ibrahim now out of the scene, the state leaders in Pakatan Rakyat should close ranks and focus their attention and effort on holding the fort rather than being engrossed with internal feuding.
Abasir: Azmin, whether Pakatan retains Selangor in the 14th general election (GE14) depends a lot on how you manage yourself, the "coalition" and the betterment of all Selangorians.
Also remember that from this day onwards, nothing you or those close to you say or do is sacrosanct. That is the price of office... just in case you forget. Expectations are high. So deliver.
Hang Tuah PJ: Azmin, congratulations but Selangorians will be watching. I just hope the time will not come when we have to tell the sultan, "I told you so".
Fogbom: The appointment of Azmin as new MB came a result of Pakatan's inability to agree on who would take the post, said Selangor sultan’s private secretary Mohamad Munir Bani.
From one angle, the fact that the PAS leadership of the syura council and president Hadi, officially repudiated Wan Azizah, the above statement makes "sense".
But it makes sense only if you ignore all the other facts, i.e. the 30 statutory declarations (SDs), including two from PAS, and the PAS central committee approving both Wan Azizah and Azmin.
So, the royal advisers have chosen to take a narrow view to "interpret" that Pakatan "could not agree" on the MB candidate, therefore giving the sultan the discretion.
Elsewhere, there is a theory that Wan Azizah was judged to be unyielding on certain future monetary issues and that made her "unsuitable". This remark by the sultan’s private secretary Munir Bani is a face-saving gesture.
The fact is, Azmin was not the choice of the people's representatives. So be it and let the chips fall where they may.
Pemerhati: This saga has highlighted that dictatorial Umno (Malaysia has rightly been described as a false democracy by astute foreign observers) can do anything it likes and it controls almost everyone in the public service and the royalty by using fear and by giving huge financial inducements such as giving lucrative contracts.
By getting the sultan to appoint Azmin, Umno hopes to weaken PKR by creating dissension within its ranks as a lot of people in the party prefer party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
They also probably feel that they can easily make a Khalid Ibrahim out of Azmin and at one time even PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, the Umno Trojan horse in Pakatan, favoured Azmin as the MB.
With Azizah, who has shown herself to be an upright and principled person, Umno knows it cannot create any mischief or gain financially in Selangor. Thus it has got PAS and the sultan to block her from becoming MB.
The question now is, will Azmin become another Khalid?
CQ MUAR: Dear Azmin Ali, please do not forget the source from where you hailed from, politically. Most of all, do discharge your duties with dedication and honesty to all Selangorians.
You must never, ever stoop to demands by sources outside your 'territory', especially those from Umno who will constantly design and manoeuvre to use you to subvert and destroy.
Please serve without fear or favour as you're protected within the confines of the law, which is enshrined in the federal and state constitutions.
All eyes are now on you to deliver. Conversely, there are also those who are waiting to entice and 'corrupt' you leading to your downfall. May God be with you and guide you in your endeavours as MB.
Swipenter: Azmin, I congratulate you on your appointment. Your ambition is fulfilled by default through circumstances beyond your control. Now rendered those "partners" of Pakatan powerless to create any more trouble.
You know who are the trustworthy and steadfast partners of Pakatan and who are those inclined to be treacherous and to double cross the coalition.
It is about time to improve basic services provided by the local councils such as making parking less hellish, better rubbish collection and grass cutting, maintaining and upgrading drains, roads resurfacing and repairing pot holes and fogging in view of the dengue menace.
Under the last MB, these basic services have deteriorated in Selangor, and I am not the only one complaining.
My Opinion: Now, please use the money Khalid kept all this while to resurface the roads, and not just the road in front of the palace.
Vijay47: Congratulations, Azmin. Never mind now that your journey to the post of menteri besar was not in the manner Pakatan and the people wished for.
Yet it is a lesson well learned in that we never know who our friends truly are, especially when the enemy, smelling blood, is baying at the gates. Thus the first order of the day should be to review the presence of PAS in Pakatan.
I wish you all the very best and hope that you lead the state and inspire your party to higher levels from where Putrajaya would be just a step away.
Ferdtan: Azmin, we hope you can bring Pakatan to greater heights together with your colleagues in PKR, DAP and certain pro-Pakatan PAS leaders.
Here’s a good advice from Peter ‘Spiderman’ Parker, “With great power comes great responsibility."
