Azmin off to a good start as Selangor MB
YOURSAY ‘All eyes are watching you, prove your critics wrong.’
Jokowi-style new MB ‘terjah’ illegal dump truck
Anonymous_4031c:
When Pakatan Rakyat was first voted in, many of us in Selangor had hope that things will get better, chief amongst which is better garbage collection services and cleaner streets where rubbish is cleared and clogged drains attended to.
Yes, this is not the job of the menteri besar but Azmin Ali should have a task force at local council level going around every day to look into these simple expectations. Co-opt the Yang Berhormats to ‘turun padang’ (go to the ground) and be part of the task force.
A lot of the local council employees are not pulling their weight and are ‘makan gaji buta’. You can't expect them to do their jobs when they have had the lazy Ebola virus in them for ages.
In this, Khalid has failed the rakyat big time. Simple matters as aforesaid allow us the rakyat to feel the difference but we don't, even with a Pakatan government. What's the point of having a surplus and boasting about it when we don't enjoy good quality of life.
Damntlwbn: Azmin, we love what you are doing so far, and all eyes are watching you, prove your critics wrong. Please get down and dirty and get the job done.
Next, please use some the state’s money to mend the potholes and retar the roads. We need that badly. Be with the people and be humble at all times.
Ferdtan: There are many ways to lead people and this is the way MB Azmin wants to stamp his authority on the style of his leadership. What a good way to have such an immediate “wow”effect by taking personal lead in checking on menial duties from drains to dump trucks.
We have been talking about rubbish collection and having clean drains to eradicate the dengue menace being high on the to-do list for the new administration. Those were the big let-down by the previous Khalid Ibrahim’s administration.
Khalid was the bureaucratic type of leader who often sat in his air-conditioned office from 9am to 5pm like a government servant. He rarely stepped out from his office, and even after office hours activities were minimal.
We hope the new MB, who is doing the right things so far with such burst of energy, keeps his aspiration as the people’s MB a reality.
Yes, many say that Azmin as a person cannot do much by being personally involved in such activities. But he, by attending such spot checks, shows his subordinates that he is watching closely. That should prompt them to perform.
A leader like Indonesia president-designate Jokowi, understands symbolism. He wants to create his image as a hands-on leader. There is nothing wrong in that, but it has to be sustained to be credible.
FellowMalaysian: Way to go, Azmin. Going to the ground and starting off with tackling garbage problems is a spot-on way to get the people's attention to his 'no-nonsense' style of administration.
And what a way to project a 'clean and corrupt-free' image than to go after those who scam the people over garbage collection. By doing so, Azmin is also sending an emphatic message to the local councils that it is time to clean up too.
Basically: I may be a skeptic, but it's a start, let's see how Azmin pans out.
Khalid surely never ‘turun padang’ at all. If he did he would have to cover his nose from the stench at the open bin next to SS2's famous food court, or tiptoe on top of the badly corroded metal bridges across the huge drains that may collapse any time and send people crashing into the filth below.
Two terms with Khalid, and these unsightly things have not changed a single bit.
CiViC: Hypocrites in the making again. When Umno leaders does all these, they are labeled as "drama", or being too petty and micro-managing. But here full of praises just because he is Azmin Ali.
Selangor is hopeless if the MB needs to do all these, followed by a bunch of people whom has nothing better to do and reporters who could have reported better things. While it is too early to judge Azmin, having done all these doesn't make him a better man than Khalid.
Voice: Frankly, Azmin doesn't have to do all that but he has. Even people on the street deem dumpsters too smelly and never go near them.
Selangor needs major upgrading, improvement and transformation in many areas and we hope the new MB can do something about it.
Hbasill: I think Azmin is showing his executive team that this is what they need to do to be on top of their portfolios.
More importantly, after walking the talk, they must get the paid employees to execute their duties and responsibilities. If the working culture is right, then everything will fall into place and Selangor can become another Penang.
Having travelled the length and breadth of both Selangor and Penang, it is clear that Penang is way ahead of Selangor in terms of infrastructure development/caring for seniors/caring for the poor, etc.
Selangor is certainly much larger than Penang, but the size does not matter if the heads of state government crack the whip by ensuring that public complaints are heard/deliberated on and if possible, acted upon.
Not all complaints are resolvable but most can and any responsible government will tackle issues concerning cleanliness/poverty/health/economic development/employment, etc. All the best to Azmin and his team.
Oh Ya?: A cheap stunt remains a cheap stunt. It may score some brownie points but will not last forever.
Azmin and his executive team must be strategic and be able to formulate good policies to guide Selangor to the next level of development, be it politically, socially or economically, and uplift the people's well-being and standard of living.
Only then would the people be convinced that they are not Umno clones and that they can be entrusted with Putrajaya.
Anonymous 007: Please give the new MB time to slowly attend to things. What do you expect him to be? Superman?
Jesse: Azmin will be hampered by a bureaucracy controlled by the federal government and a state civil service which is beholden to its federal masters.
It’s time for state and federal public servants to go separate ways but that's easier said than done simply because the latter will not lightly surrender its control because indirectly, it can pull at the state government's tail.
Anonymous_3faa: Hopefully these acts are not flash in the pan, but be sustained. PR exercise notwithstanding, such publicity of genuine real work being done without the politicking needs to reach those Malays who despite Umno's failure to uplift their economic status, still believe in the devil.
Anyway, it's time to do some real work after all the shenanigans of the recent past.
