Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd has sacked yet another staff member for participating in a picket on May 9, bringing the total number of terminated over the same matter to 41 people.

The government-linked firm also suspended 11 other staff members for the same reason last week, said Railwaymen Union of Malaya (RUM) president Abdul Razak Md Hassan (below) .

To date 27 KTMB staff members have been suspended for participating in the May 9 picket, he said.

"I urge that KTMB swiftly resolve this crisis before more workers are sacked.

"If they lose their jobs, who will feed their families?" he asked when contacted today.

The raft of terminations stem from a face-off between the union and KTMB president Elias Kadir.

On May 9, about 700 KTMB staff picketed in front of the KTMB headquarters to call for termination of Elias’ contract, citing non-performance.

Following the picket, 110 staff members were issued show-cause letters while 41, including Abdul Razak, were sacked from their positions.
