The Selangor civil service will give its undivided support to Selangor Menteri Besar Mohd Azmin Ali as the head of the government of the day, said state secretary Mohd Khusrin Munawi.

 

In the first monthly assembly of the civil service since Azmin was sworn into office, he pledged that the civil service is committed to executing all of the government’s policies.

 

“As civil servants, we serve the government of the day and need to maintain the principles of professionalism and neutrality in our duties in fulfilling our responsibilities.

 

“Leaders come and go but out commitment as civil servants need to be consistent if not improved from time to time,” he said.

 

Khusrin ( left in pic ) was previously seen as a thorn in the state’s Pakatan Rakyat-led administration after the Public Service Department (PSD), which is a federal government agency, appointed him to the state secretary post.

 

The then Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim had opposed the appointment on grounds that he was not consulted, but he eventually relented.

 

Meanwhile, Azmin stressed the importance of the civil service during his speech at the same assembly.

 

He said that he has a duty as menteri besar, but would not be able to deliver on his promises without a civil service that is “efficient, trustworthy, and professional”.

 

“I believe and have faith in the efficiency and ability of Selangor’s civil servants. Although Malaysia is a developing country, but Selangor is already at a developed level.

 

“Therefore in our minds and in the way we work, we need to reflect Selangor’s status as a developed state,” he said.
