YOURSAY ‘Gerakan should be first to declare they are Malaysians First.’

Gerakan wants BN to act on 'extremist' members

Hang Babeuf: Interesting, isn't it, how the burden of the urgent and legitimate urging for a strong stand against extremism in BN has been made to fall - not on Umno (where it really and properly belongs!) but upon poor Gerakan scapegoats - who have been pilloried for years by the heroic Malays in Umno for trying to argue that the children of all the nation's citizens should be known simply, and proudly, by the cheerful identification ‘Saya Anak Malaysia’!

Anonymous_ABG: Johor Gerakan delegate Tan Lai Soon spoke the truth about safeguarding the birthright dignity of the Chinese and Indian communities, but of course much against the liking of the Umno pendatang.

Gerakan is noted for boot-licking Umno and they sold the inherited, ancestral right of the people of Penang - its free port status.

Those Gerakan members with self-respect for the sake of the future of their children should quit the party and join PKR or DAP for a better Malaysia. What are the Malays and Indians doing in Gerakan - licking the Umno crumbs?

Bystander: Gerakan secretary-general Liang Teck Meng is making Tan Lai Soon a scapegoat by misquoting and labelling him as an extremist. Tan never just said Malays are pendatang, but on the contrary he rightfully said Malays, like Chinese and Indians, are all pendatang, which is absolutely right in fact.

Even an Umno veteran like former minister Zainuddin Maidin (Zam) has endorsed it as correct, but then added that Malays were the first pendatang and hence are deemed superior, sovereign, and etc.

So what has Tan said that is racist? Gerakan, please have some honour and pride to face the truth, head on, and not bend to be subservient to distort the facts and throw your own members to the dogs! Disgusting beings!

Not Smart: Some have so-called "more right" to call others with provocative names under the disguise of defending their inherent rights presumably enshrined in the constitution. They can get away with such acts, even if these very glaring hurts the others. If leaders in authority, too, condone such acts and turn deaf, then what message are we sending?

Gerakan, since you had taken the lead to act as you preach (it’s a good example), you have not stated your stand as to what would you do if other component parties of BN do not do the same. Let’s wait and see who is going to lick whose wounds.

Man on the Street: Gerakan, dream on! Gerakan can't even move or lift an ‘Umno pebble’.

Anonymous #70881335: Gerakan should have been the first party to openly declare that they are Malaysians First.

Apa Ini?: What a cowardly way out. Tan was, at most, saying we are all 'pendatang' and failed to add, the poor man, that we are all Malaysians first. What he said is far less offensive than what the deputy prime minister (DPM) said about being Malay first and Malaysian second. But you have done us all a favour: we see clearly now that the leadership is in no way able to stand up to the BIG brother in BN.

Telestai!: Liang Teck Meng, don't be unreasonable. The extremists you are referring to are paid contractors of Umno, your bedfellow.

J Yeoh: Well done, Gerakan. Never mind scarificing a member to force Umno to do the same. Let's see if the effect is there. Anyway, you have tried your best to defend the 'non-Malay pendatang'. That is most important.

Single Malt: Let the leaders of Gerakan, MCA and MIC grab whatever bones are thrown at them. They like to lick them. The grassroots, please have self dignity and quit these parties and be part of Pakatan to see a change. Don't let these boot-polishing leaders of BN fool you guys.

UntaSenyum: Gerakan, MIC and MCA should have suspended Umno from BN when they screamed 'pendatang' and waved the keris crying for others’ blood.

ONG: Tan Lai Soon did not say that only Malays are 'pendatang' the way Umno people claim all non-Malays are 'pendatang'. He said that "Malays, Chinese and Indians were all pendatang, except the Orang Asli, Sabahans and Sarawakians, who are the original bumiputera", which is an undeniable fact. He got suspended for stating a fact!

Tok karut: Statements at the Umno general assembly are not privileged. Suggest that Gerakan Hapus Akta Hasutan (GHAH) and other alliances monitor the speeches for seditious content.

Hope234: Now, Gerakan tries to do what Umno does best, that is ‘spinning' its way out of a very sticky situation.

Gerakan has been relegated to a mosquito party by the rakyat, but thinks it has the power to demand this from its master. I hope they try to get themselves into Umno meeting and make this demand vocally.

Supercession: Gerakan is damn pathetic. It suspends its member for speaking the obvious truth and now tries to cover up its gutlessness by asking its master to emulate its "moral" courage. Get real, Gerakan. Umno loves its racist supporters, and no amount of riding the high horse will make Umno choose you over the latter.

ISSHHH: Law lecturer Associate Professor Azmi Sharom said we are all pendatang. Why is it stating a fact out of a leaf in history wrong? Pleaseee...

Swipenter: Gerakan having made an example out of Tan Lai Soon now expects Umno Baru to follow suit. Remember, your political master has now outsourced all this kind of work to Perkasa, Isma, etc. Why not try the Attorney-General’s Chambers to investigate Tan for sedition?

Keturunan Malaysia: Liang Teck Meng, your urging is just face-saving after all the brickbats you got for your cowardly reaction to Tan Lai Soon, honestly. It is NOT, as you like to make it out, 'taking the lead and/or setting an example'. You people are just a shameless bunch of cowards!

Ranjita Kaur A/P Whitemoon: Wah, one member was promoted into Parliament by gutter politics, now the rest of these dogs are barking loudly already? I suggest you dogs behave yourselves. If Jibby gets angry, he will disband your foolish losers’ club.

Axolotl: Oy, Gerakan, you've been constipated for how many decades? Get off the pot if you can't get the job done. Waste of space. All you can do is irritate voters.
