Enrol in 'democracy school', Isma tells Lim
Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) has told DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng to enrol himself in a "democracy school" to learn about freedom of speech.
Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) has told DAP secretary general Lim Guan Eng to enrol himself in a "democracy school" to learn about freedom of speech.
Its president Abdullah Zaik Abd Rahman said DAP should respect differences in opinion and view democracy in a wider scope.
"Lim needs to enrol himself in a democracy school. Is democracy only from the DAP's point of view?" Abdullah told Isma's mouthpiece Ismaweb today.
He was responding to Lim’s statement yesterday which urged the government to take action against Isma after Abdullah made a statement in relation to politics in Islam last Saturday.
"Will the home minister or the inspector-general of police take action against Isma?" Lim had asked in a statement yesterday.
Abdullah ( right ) had said at Isma's symposium on Islamic political thought that the country needed Islamic politics that is strong in its fight against ‘kekufuran’ (infidel elements).
However, Lim questioned how Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak would champion his concept of wasatiyyah (moderation) if he did not take action against the “extremist NGO” Isma.
“Abdullah’s statement proves his agenda, which abhors non-Muslims, as well as his clear admission to fight the kafir (infidels).
“If Najib does not take action, the country will be in chaos if we let Isma continue with its efforts to fight the kafir under the name of Islamic politics," Lim said.
Does DAP support Islam as federal religion?
Nevertheless, the Penang chief minister welcomed Ikram president Mohd Parid Sheikh Ahmad’s statement which urged Malaysians to stop calling one another with labels such as ‘pendatang’ and ‘penceroboh’.
“It is true that the people should focus on creating an environment where mutual respect is prevalent,” Lim said in reference to Mohd Parid’s statement.
Meanwhile, Abdullah also challenged Lim to state that the DAP supports Islam as the federal religion and accepts the special rights of Malays and the rulers.
“If the DAP is not an extreme, chauvinistic party, please announce your support for Islam as the federal religion and that you accept the special rights of the Malays, the rulers, as well as the status of the bumiputera.
“If you don’t do so, you are the one affecting the country’s harmony and triggering chaos. You are the one who is extreme,” Abdullah added.
