Azmin long, long way from being a 'Jokowi'

YOURSAY 'The SIS fatwa is the first real test for Azmin and he has failed miserably.'

Azmin says respect S'gor fatwa on 'deviant' SIS

Appum: Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali, if you don't know anything about Sisters in Islam (SIS), then say so. Don't make any stupid comment like respect the fatwa on SIS. Can you tell us what's deviant about this organisation?

Hbasill: This is the first real test for Azmin and he has failed miserably. Just the other day PJ Utara MP Tony Pua praised him, but it is obvious this guy is no better than former MB Abdul Khalid Ibrahim when it comes to Islam.

No point talking further, it would be idiotic if non-Muslims in Selangor vote for BN or PKR or PAS. Christians are no better under PKR or PAS. Reconsider your voting options.

Anonymous #19098644: When a state body or law or ruling conflicts with the federal constitution, it is unconstitutional and null and void. This is a classic case of an unconstitutional ruling. So why should we respect it?

Swipenter: 99.99 percent of Muslim politicians become dumb and helpless when the religious 'gun' is pointed at them. They become like the three proverbial monkeys: see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil.

What is a "liberal" Muslim? A thinking Muslim and a Muslim who does not believe in exclusivity but embraces and sees others as a human first, and a creation of Allah/God too, and not as a Christian or Hindu, or Buddhist or Taoist or an infidel etc.

Bumiputhran: Azmin is a true blue 'Muslim Malay first', 'liberal Selangorian second' politician. He owes his current plum status to the sultan and the PAS ulama. Azmin is not an MB for all, he will only serve the sultan and Muslim needs first. Period

DonRom: So, PKR is now fast becoming like PAS in Selangor? What's happening, Azmin? We thought you would be better than your predecessor Abdul Khalid Ibrahim. Sad!

Kangkung: Azmin, to "refuse to comment further" will not make the issue to go away. You now do sound to me like the frog, Khalid Ibrahim.

Samurai: The newbie burst forth with promise telling people he is emulating Indonesian president Joko Widodo (Jokowi). Sadly, Malaysia is not ready to have, nor to produce, a Jokowi. We are far too backward compared to Indonesia, both in politics and mentality and education of the people.

There are many ways Azmin could have handled the tricky question, surely he should have prepared an answer the moment SIS lodged their judicial review, as the state is one of the respondents.

Was he unprepared, unwilling to give comfort to Selangorians, or simply afraid to break the Malay first mould? Who knows, only time will tell. His colleague Rafizi Ramli, when push came to shove, already showed his true colours when he replied on the compulsory Islamic studies issue. Frankly, I don't expect Azmin or any other PKR Muslim leader to act any differently.

Emulating Jokowi? Dream on, Azmin.

Anticommunalist: Azmin a clone of Khalid to be? Selangorians, here we go again...

Duke: Sorry Azmin, your popularity just took a nosedive...

Retnam: So, does anyone still believe this fellow can solve the confiscated bibles issue?

Thetruth: Azmin, let's talk first things first. What is the status of the seized bibles? Have you been briefed by the religious authorities Jais and Mais? Or still waiting to fix an appointment? I remember you promised to look into this as your first priority. Do you need more than 30 days to come to a decision?

The Analyser: What Azmin said is right. Whatever stupidity the Fatwa Council wishes to say, it has nothing to do with the MB of Selangor in his official capacity.

Pkk: In Selangor Muslims are obliged by law to respect formally gazetted fatwa whether he likes it or not. It does not mean he agrees with the fatwa. We have the sedition law, we have no choice but to live under its rules whether right or not.

SIS has done the right thing to file a judicial review, and until the fatwa is overturned by judicial review we have to respect the fatwa. Even Azmin has no choice.

Why all these fuss among the so-called liberals against Azmin? He is only repeating a fact of the law. These so-called liberals shamelessly lack clear thinking.

Single Malt: Dear all, let's not make any comments on Azmin. Let's give him 100 days to measure his true colours. also bearing in mind he was ex-Umno Baru man and he has good friends in former PKR man Ezam Mohd Noor the turncoat.

Let's see what he will do if his party chief Anwar Ibrahim is sent to prison.

The Analyser: I think this move might be the first step in the long battle to separate religion from matters of the state. If that's the case, Azmin might well become the best leader Malaysia has ever seen

Visu: Let's all vote for Sisters in Islam (SIS) and its member Marina Mahathir. Whoever stands and fights for liberalism must be supported as they have not only a working brain but more importantly, the principles to stand up to enforce the right thoughts.

Fair Play: Well, well, well. As MB, Azmin Ali knows which side his bread is buttered. So, as more things change, the more they remain the same.

Perkasa takes fight against liberalism to Indonesia

Kit Carson: Perkasa cannot make it in "liberal" Malaysia, and they want to "set roots" in Indonesia? Perkasa and its chief Ibrahim Ali will be kicked out by the Indonesian government soon.

Anonymous #58458950 : This 'holier than thou' attitude is baffling. It is like 'bringing coal to Newcastle'. We are trying to teach the largest Muslim country in the world how to be more Islamic than others, what a laugh!

Indonesia should throw him back to Malaysia and not let him spew his hate politics in Indonesia.

Anonymous 99119: President Jokowi, be careful. Ibrahim 'Ebolali' is another strain of the deadly virus.

Hplooi: So it is confirmed, Perkasa is against pluralism. This means Perkasa's agenda is a narrow assertion of race religion, in other words, a fascist supremacist agenda. Every government in this region should be on the alert.

Sarawak has already put them on the blacklist. I hope the UK, US and European embassies are reading this. And the patron of Perkasa should also be blacklisted. Ideally his funds and bank accounts should be frozen, as they are used to nurture future ticking bombs.

Quigonbond: Good. I'd like to see how they get trounced by the voices of a democracy that is apparently speeding ahead of Malaysia.

JBond: How about allowing the Ku Klux Klan to open a branch in Putrajaya to balance up Perkasa and Isma?
