DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng yesterday strongly urged PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang to attend Pakatan Rakyat leadership meetings, as the coalition cannot progress otherwise.

Speaking at a DAP fundraiser at Petaling Jaya, Lim said that this is as Hadi, by his own admission, is the ultimate decision-maker in PAS who can overrule his party's central committee decisions.

As such, Pakatan cannot make resolutions with only his lieutenants present at meetings.

He said that unlike BN, where Umno is the anchor party which calls the shots, Pakatan works on the basis of consensus by all three member parties.

“So I am willing to call now, and say this openly. I ask PAS, especially the president, to keep his promises and fulfill commitments...

“So long as he stays away from the Pakatan leadership meeting, it is difficult for Pakatan to function as a whole committee.

“Let us meet at the Pakatan leadership council with all the top leaders and not every time with the absence of the PAS president," said Lim.

This is the second time in two days that Lim has questioned Hadi and PAS' commitment to Pakatan.

On Sunday, he said that partner parties who do not fulfill their promises to the coalition are greater threats to Pakatan's survival compared to whether or not PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim goes to jail for sodomy following his ongoing final appeal.

Touching on the sodomy trial, he said that the quest to “destroy (Anwar's) character” has dragged the whole nation down the gutter and left parents in a quandary.

“I don't know how to bring up children nowadays. In the 1990s there was the (first) sodomy trial, then in the 21st century, they say also sodomy.

“If Anwar is here 20 years from now, we will have sodomy III. Ridiculous. How do we teach our children?” he asked.

He said that his eight-year-old son after reading the newspaper asked him what is the lubricant 'K-Y jelly', which complainant Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan brought with him when he met Anwar on the day of the alleged sodomy incident.

“How to answer? K-Y is all over the papers, in the news, K-Y here, K-Y there. I know our children read the papers...he asked if (K-Y) can be eaten.

“This is corrupting the minds of children and I say '(Prime Minister) Najib (Abdul Razak), shame on you',” he said.

He also vowed to stand by Anwar, as he is a “victim of slander”, and will march with the PKR de facto leader to Putrajaya.

“Even if he goes in(to jail), we will wait for him to return,” he said.

Anwar's final appeal against his second sodomy conviction is entering its sixth day today.
