Not 'illusory bribery' party but 'real bribery' party

YOURSAY ‘Dr Mahathir Mohamad is in desperate need of a reality check.’

Dr M: Ditch bribery image to regain Selangor

Versey: Those with a meek and humble disposition tend to grow wiser as they age, but not the proud and recalcitrant. In this Internet age, with a free flow of information, the kampung folk may still be easily deceived but not their children who work in the cities.

Therefore, coaching Umno members to fake humble and modest living, fake sincerity, fake goodness or fake anything may not work and when Umno’s hypocrisy is discovered, it may even lead to more adverse effects.

The only way to revive a depraved body (party) is to let it experience a painful fall to learn a hard lesson. Only then will it be willing to wake up and shake up.

Otak-otak: My goodness! Instead of telling Selangor Umno not to be corrupt, to work hard for the rakyat and respect the rakyat, this devil of the worst kind is showing his real true colours by telling the Umno leaders not to drive luxury cars into the villages! To those Umno supporters there, what are you waiting for? You have been cheated all this while... and let Umno continue to play you out!

Ferdtan: What a superficial piece of advice Dr Mahathir Mohamad is giving to Selangor Umno! How sincere is he to solve the real problems of Selangor when his only interest is to get Selangor back to BN’s stable? Is Mahathir a statesman?

His advice of wanting Umno to lose its ugly image of a ‘bribery party’ is fooling the people by hiding their extravagant living, to be close to the people (okay with that - that is their job anyway) and worse of all, not to use luxury cars when visiting villages. Hello, Mahathir, stop duping the people once again; 22 years of your premiership is enough.

Sirach: Mahathir's views never fail to amuse. He has pat answers for almost anything. Malays rejected Umno Baru because of its "image" as a bribery party. Really? Only an image? Go figure.

He then lectures his party leaders to be close to the people and not use luxury cars when entering villages. Besides smacking of hypocrisy, his advice underestimates the intelligence of the Malay to a breathtaking degree.

Does Mahathir really believe that Malays can be so easily fooled, especially the young who are Internet-exposed and educated? Maybe at one time they could, but happily, no longer.

Mahathir is in desperate need of a reality check. The state of the party he once led with an iron fist is in no small way the legacy of his time in office. He is (or pretends to be) completely oblivious to that sad truth.

Rightan: "... not to use luxury cars when entering villages..." So it is okay to own luxury cars and other luxuries as long as they don’t let the kampung folk know about it?

Gen Half Track: For someone who drives around in a Porsche, this advise sounds hollow.

Louis: In short, Umno leaders should be hypocrites. Najib Abdul Razak should lead the way, and he is very good at it.

Maharaja: I cannot see how the Gen-Y in Umno can shed the bribery image of their party. In the first place I don't see any willingness to change. This talk of Gen-Y by Dr M is just another of his antics to deceive the vulnerable kampung folk, just the same as his antics to drive cheap cars into the kampung to make them think that they are poor when in actual truth, they are extremely rich.

The urging is also another of Mahathir’s ploys to topple the current leaders in Umno. In my opinion, the Generation-Y Umno leaders will be just the same, if not, more ruthless and vicious.

I believe that bribery and corruption were more 'refined' with the older generations than with the younger generations, who seem to be more ruthless, intolerant and insensitive, looking more into their personal rights rather than societal rights.

Therefore, Gen-Y will not change Umno and save Malaysia. Only a change of government will.

Senior: Who created Umno Baru’s image as full of bribery and corrupt? Someone who stayed in power for a long, long time?

Doc: "The vetting is necessary as there are 'pests' looking to use Umno for their own personal agenda," said Mahathir. Umno today are all a bunch of pests that need to be exterminated.

Pakatan-ku: Any affirmative action based on race, especially favouring the majority race, is bound to fail anywhere in the world. The logic is simple - the majority race controls the PMship from Day 1, as well as the police, armed forces, Bank Negara, all the gvernment-linked companies (GLCs), all the public universities, colleges and schools.

The present Perak sultan once said, "For Malaysia to succeed, every Malaysian should feel they have an equal share under the Malaysian sun." We need to change fast, for Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and even the Phillippines are quickly catching up.

Not Smart: Tun, it is not just about shedding its “image” of being a "bribery party". The trouble is that Umno is no more "imaginary bribery" but “real bribery”. Here, cronyism and favouritism are also part of the"bribery party".

By you advising leaders "not to use luxury cars when entering villages", it simply connotes that the luxury cars were acquired through the "bribery party", and it is also your confession that Umno is a "bribery party".

Anonymous_1395464675: Mahathir, you must be joking in asking them to resign. Because of them, Pakatan will forever have Selangor in their hand. No worries for Pakatan. Even our PM Najib cannot do anything because it will backfire back on him. Selangor BN tak boleh hidup lagi. It will suffer the same fate as Gerakan, soon.

Adsertor: Sorry, Mahathir, you are wrong. Umno is sinking and will be history soon. Racism, bigotry and radicalism are out of favour in today's world. After 55 years of Umno, we are still a Third World country, despite our rich resources.

Our education system is third class. Our justice system is compromised. Our system of government is corrupted. Our national debts have ballooned. Our future generation is condemned to a scary future.

Shibboleth: How to change one’s image? If a woman is fat and ugly, no beautician can remedy this fact. Maybe, upon her death, the mortician can help.

Tenfold: Look who is talking. The man many regard as the father of corruption and money politics. This Mahathir brought in Dr Khir Toyo, and together they wrecked Selangor.

During his time in power, Mahathir got rid of the good, smart and intelligent people and surrounded himself with half-baked a**-lickers, so that among the blind, the one-eyed man is the king. This man thinks that Malaysians have short memories.
