But M’sians envy Dutch low corruption rate

YOURSAY ‘No visiting PM will say negative things of the host country.’

Dutch PM envies us, says Najib

Justice Pao: The Netherland's per capita gross domestic product (GDP) totalling US$800 billion for 2013 is US$47,617; and Malaysia’s per capita GDP totalling US$312 billion for 2013 is US$10,514.

Bolehland, a country with so much natural resources, has a GDP that is about one-fifth that of the Netherland. So who should envy who?

Perhaps Dutch PM Mark Rutte must be envying Malaysian PM Najib Razak for staying in a billion ringgit palace, travelling in private jets even on family holidays at the rakyat's expense, being able to rule the country with only 47 percent of the votes and stifling dissents by charging opposition with sedition, giving out contracts to cronies and making many of them millionaires and billionaires... and plenty more for Rutte to envy as he could not do that in the Netherlands.

Sirach: When the Dutch PM said he envied Malaysia's economic performance, he must have been referring to the GDP growth rate.

Basic math and Economics 101 will tell you that as a developing nation Malaysia's growth rate, to be respectable, has to be higher than developed countries, such as the Netherlands, simply because they start from different bases.

There is nothing that much to crow about really. That said, credit should be given where it is due. We are doing not too badly at all.

CQ Muar: Najib said the Dutch PM praised Malaysia’s economic performance as it is better than his own country.

In the first place, no visiting PM will say negative things of the host country. And you got so carried away like a little boy and made the announcement to the nation.

Did you also share with PM Mark Rutte our woes - racist sentiments, economic unrest due to rising prices, national debt close to RM600 billion, Christian persecution and high level of corruption?

Najib, stop crediting yourself as prime minister of Malaysia - you're merely covering your eyes with imported New Zealand wool and wallowing in self-comfort. The bulk of Malaysians are far from being proud of you.

Commentable: I am not surprised that the Netherlands PM envies the Malaysian economy - for the country keeps on and on churning so much money that no matter how Najib & Co spend it, the debt ratio is still maintained at 53 percent. And best thing is, Najib can still boast, "See we never go bust."

So how many governments in this world are able to spend and spend monies from the nation's coffers like it belongs to the family heirloom with no accountability and transparency? What more when everything spent is covered under the Official Secrets Act (OSA) except for trivial ones?

At this rate we are going, who else would not be tempted to say that the Malaysian economic performance is way better than their own? And for that, which government in this world would not be envious of Malaysia and its government?

Correct: The World Bank’s International Finance Corp (IFC) has ranked Malaysia 18th out of 189 other countries in terms of ease of conducting business.

In the 2015 IFC ‘World Bank Doing Business Report’, Malaysia was placed ahead of Taiwan, Switzerland, Thailand, the Netherlands and Japan. It ranked second in Asean and fourth in Asia after Singapore, Hong Kong and South Korea.

Based on the report, Malaysia made improvements in five indicators, namely, starting a business, dealing with construction permits, getting electricity, registering property, and resolving insolvency. Yet, Bolehland still got a long way to go...

Hmmmmmmmm: Looks like our PM is so hard up for praises that he'll grasp at anything. The fact that he places so much attention to this praise must mean that no other leaders ever said that before.

Debater: I have been on business trips and tours of Holland almost 10 times. I have crisscrossed the country. I don't see slums like ours, the streets are clean and their education is way above ours.

Their politicians are hauled up in court if they are corrupted. They have more multinational companies (profitable, not like our MAS) than Malaysia.

Their economy is mature and their one percent growth is equal to perhaps our 10 percent growth. Instead of bragging, our PM should learn from them and work hard to rid of corruption.

Pemerhati: Malaysia’s economy must be really good and the people must very contented and happy with the leadership as they do not say anything, protest or take action against the leaders who steal the people’s money by the billions and these leaders have also passed on their loot to their children and step-children, and consequently they have also become billionaires and have real estate investments amounting to hundreds of millions in the West.

CiViC: Yes, an economic performance that is equivalent to the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer.
