The Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) may reap up to RM4.3 billion from the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex toll hike in Johor Baru by the end of its concession agreement, Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching said today.

During a press conference at the Parliament lobby, she pointed out that in August alone, MRCB, which is collecting the hiked up toll charges for its construction of the Eastern Dispersal Link (EDL), had accumulated up to RM11 million.

"It was stated in the MRCB annual report that the total investment cost of the EDL was at RM1.2 billion.

"Even though MRCB is tasked to provide maintenance for the facilities within the CIQ complex, the profit that they are going to make from toll collection is still exorbitant and astronomical," she said.

MRCB has a 34-year concession period for EDL.

Previously, MRCB were paid RM11 million a month in compensation by the government for constructing and maintaining the EDL.

She demanded that the government make public the concession agreement, as she said that Johoreans were being burdened by the toll hike.
